The bailiffs enter the courtroom back while the Sergeant counts the votes. None of the townspeople are in the room right now, it's just the visitors and the Sergeant.

I'm surprised. I had thought these two had a better chance than anyone until now, yet you managed to pinpoint them as the culprits. Well done, everyone. Indeed, Franciscus Erkens and Olympia are both GUILTY.

[He stands up]

You know the drill by now. Does anyone want to volunteer for executioner?

[There's no beating around it this time-- thanks to a handful of individuals, he's starting to understand the complicated feelings rising up inside of him and how they've grown. He's volunteering for the sake of his own personal satisfaction.]

There are not many whom I've cared for, but two of them were murdered here.

She was difficult but... bright. And...

Cian... I've always liked her. She had a darkness in her past but... she tried her hardest despite that and had a hopefulness in her that was... very different from myself. I liked that about her.

[The Sergeant observes all of the volunteers when they get in front of him. After a moment...]

Pretty close options, if you ask me, but...Osomatsu, Dazai, meet me in the Lodge in a couple hours.

[Osamu Dazai and Osomatsu Matsuno's volunteering have been accepted]
