Just like last week, the pile of votes appear in front of the Sergeant, who counts them with practiced ease. He stands up as soon as he's done, pausing for only a moment, before making his announcement.
[The Sergeant doesn't have to spend that long counting the votes, for he extends the moment for as long as possible.
While he does that, everyone in the public starts to walk out, having seen the trial in its entirety. Everybody sounds a bit confused, talking to each other about the strange proceedings. Why are the visitors talking like they have to kill this Bolin guy, even though it was an accident? Why can't they just...not kill him? What's wrong with them? Juno and the two faceless bailiffs are the only ones who stay.
It's worth noting that, in no moment of the trial, nobody acknowledged the Sergeant's presence. In no trial they did. All the townspeople could see was a bunch of outsiders, sitting around in podiums and arguing who killed each other. That's why they're confused now.
Once only the bailiffs, the outsiders and the Sergeant is left, he talks. He doesn't sound enthusiastic at all, it's more like he's resigned to this:]
I think it's pretty clear Bolin is GUILTY. Accident or not, this has to be done. Congratulations.
[Orders are orders, procedures are procedures, no use in arguing. That's why he continues:]
Does anyone want to step forward and be the executioner? If not, I can do this myself.
[ As the results come in, Bolin decides to make one final, impassioned plea at the people of Cartesio. Sure their rage has calmed substantially, but they need to know… They need to know what exactly has been going on here, even if he can’t exactly tell them what has been going on here. ]
Hey! Everyone watching this trial, if you really want to call it that, listen, please! I know I just got caught having killed someone, but there’s something you need to know.
[ Bolin takes a quick pause, glaring at the Sergeant ]
Do you really think we’d come to your home and kill each other week after week? And then submit ourselves to this trial? We’ve been stuck here, been told that we had to kill each other in order to get back to our homes, our worlds. Someone has been keeping us here, offering us deals to make it better for us to kill someone.
Someone has been pulling the strings, for all of us here. Just… think about who it might be.
[Some of the townspeople who are leaving turn their heads, acknowledging what Bolin said. It was...strange, to say the least. It's weird. Unnatural.
Your message has gotten to them, Bolin.
Juno the bailiff, though, has something to say about that. For a moment he comes outside, before returning and bringing something: a few documents. These are to request courtrooms.
In all of them, various of the visitors are registered as the ones asking for the room, one different tourist every week. Osomatsu, Hawks, Dazai, Kino, Frasier...Bolin himself.
