Week 8 - May 20th - May 24th

Last Week

With the weekend's latest tragedy, a strange mood has descended over Cartesio. What happened was unprecedented, and perhaps that's why the already decreasing hostility from the townsfolk comes to a complete halt. Could it be the strange circumstances? Bolin's desperate plea? Last week's peaceful Wednesday? Some combination? Whatever the reason, it's clear that the Sergeant's iron fist around the town has loosened. While the residents aren't jumping to interact with you, there's no graffiti, no new broken windows.

Cartesio is confused...but open to explanation, for perhaps the first time.

Still, while the town seems amiable, almost accepting again, there's little to chase away the knowledge that the Sergeant's tasks for you are near their end, and that means those without medals are doomed to their fate.

Or does it? After everything that's turned around, is it possible for you to claw your way out of here as well?

[Kino is so snacking on a bento, though she'll stop to speak up.]

The dead let me know that there's something weird about the oil refinery. Keith and I went to check it out, but for the most part, people just seemed... tense.

They also told me that the Sergeant was over there and that the Sergeant will be acting now. Previously, they told me he wouldn't.

As for the Sergeant... it seems us defusing the bombs was an unexpected result for him. He's usually correct about how things will go, but the townspeople haven't been reacting the way he thought they would even though they had for everything that's happened so far. [So that's. Good?] It's not a power of his or anything, just a skill.

Anyway... if the group is serious about taking on the Sergeant, I'll help out where I can. But if that's going to be the case, this is the time to be honest about what powers and items we have at our disposal.

[clearities]

I noticed that when I was checking up on Rean-san and some of the others... it's like they're uneasy about something, but I don't know what. Um. I don't know if everyone will agree with me, but, while I do want to stop what the Sergeant-san is doing, I don't want to have anyone kill him. Because I want to help him with something. [ so, yeah, there's... that. ] I don't know if I'll be of much help since I haven't tried it out yet, but I was told by Syaoran-kun that I can make cards with my own power, although considering that Flight-san only lasted for a short time, I don't think I'd be able to keep anything up for a long period of time, even if I managed to make a new card.

[quickpersuader]

It doesn't need to be lethal. But if it turns out we need to fight, it's good to know what to expect from each other so we don't have any accidents.

What magic do you currently have?

[clearities]

Um... right now, I only have these two cards. [ She takes out both Record and Mirror. ] Mirror can copy things and also other magic, and it can also create inverted illusions of reality. Like... a flipped version of a building. And Record is able to film anything and project it, but it can also record past events that happened in places.

[quickpersuader]

How far back can Record... well, record?

[clearities]

When I used it, it was. . . a lot of years ago, I'm pretty sure, since I saw my mother as a child.

[quickpersuader]

...Did you ever try to use it when we were investigating?

[clearities]

[ Sakura shakes her head ] I didn't want it to disappear like Flight-san did, so I decided to make sure to only use it in a huge emergency...

[quickpersuader]

[Ahh...]

So it's only one use?

[marmoron]

What are you helping him with that you don't want him killed, Sakura.

[clearities]

I'm going to reunite him with his friends. And I want to find a way for him to get his face back, too. [ she's not going to hesitate in saying that. ] Besides, if Sergeant-san dies, do you really think that would end this? He has superiors that he's taking orders from.

[marmoron]

[There's a raised eyebrow. His response is fairly blunt here.]

Not gonna lie, I don't really care if the Sergeant gets either of the things you're trying to help him with. If he's in the way, he's in the way and I'm not feeling real merciful towards him.

[A beat.]

He told me his boss might show up at the end. If they do, I'm gonna try taking them all out.

[clearities]

[ completely and utterly seriously, a hand on her chest, tight: ] If you plan on killing them... I will try to stop you if I have to. [ she's so tired of death. so very, very tired. ]

[quickpersuader]

Well, it's not like I want to act rashly or anything, but...

Sakura. If you say something like that, there's a possibility infighting will lose is the chance of bringing anyone back - or of any of us being able to leave, either.

Are you okay with making that choice?

[clearities]

I don't want to fight with anyone-- [ that's her feelings. her real, true, honest feelings. ] But I don't want anybody to die anymore, either! If we can all go home, I want it to not be because someone did another murder! The possibility, like you said might be there, but it's just a possibility, right? There has to be a way. A way nobody else has to die.

[quickpersuader]

They're all possibilities, it's true.

But that's also why we have to consider not only a peaceful solution, but a violent one as well. Actions have consequences, and it's possible we will have to make choices between people's lives again.

That's why I'm telling you now. Consider the possibilities very carefully. What will you do in this or that circumstance? It's better to prepare yourself now so you don't freeze with indecision later.

[marmoron]

[And equally as seriously.]

If you get in the way, don't think I'm going to hold back just because it's you.

[clearities]

[ she doesn't say anything, instead just... nods quietly. ]

[marmoron]

[Sakura may have gone quiet, but he is definitely not done talking here. On a different day, perhaps when he wasn't already stressed out this would all come out differently, but....]

If we end up in a situation where we gotta take them down in order to get home, and you do anything to sabotage us from doing what we have to ... I'm warning you right now.

I have to get back to my world to help the paladins fight to protect our entire universe, alright? If you're gonna put the lives of some assholes who shouldn't have brought us here in the first place over the lives of everyone in my world just because you don't want to see more people die then you can go straight to hell with them.

[marmoron]

Other than my Marmora dagger and the stuff from the hunting store, I've got my bayard.

[Which he'll hold in his hand. When it activates, it becomes a blade.]

It's an Altean weapon so the blade's sharper and more durable than anything else we could find around here. It'll take on different forms depending on what I need for the situation. [His brow furrows slightly. And it'll take on different forms based on who's wielding it.

[A beat.]

What do you have, Kino?

[quickpersuader]

[Allow Kino a moment to set down her bento for a moment, standing up properly.]

This one [she holds a hand over her right holster] is Silver. It's a revolver that takes 6 rounds of .44 magnum ammunition. On my back [she moves her hand to the special holster-] is Woodsman, a semiautomatic pistol that takes .22LR magazines. It's not as good for killing because of its low caliber.

This one [the holster on her left] is Canon. It's currently loaded with only a single, special explosive round. I designed it to explode upon impact, so I'd prefer to leave it alone outside of special or emergency circumstances. Otherwise, Canon needs to be manually reloaded with felt and gunpowder along with the bullets, so I'm not very likely to use it when I have Silver.

Other than those, I have another semiautomatic pistol, Onyx. It takes .22LR magazines just like Woodsman, but I've stopped using it since Woodsman was returned to me. There's also Flute, a sniper rifle that can be assembled and disassembled for easy carry, and this knife-type persuader.

[Here, she pulls out a knife with a rather large grip - the same one she used to cut Keith free earlier, actually.]

It can fire four .22LR bullets consecutively, but it's not easy to aim, unfortunately. It's something I'd only use in an emergency.

[And she sits down again, thoughtful even as she picks up her utensils again.]

I have various other hunting knives from the hunting store, but... I think that should be about everything.

[marmoron]

[...She really wasn't kidding about naming all her guns, huh. But Keith's listening, taking all of that in. The fact that she cut him loose with a knife-gun has not escaped his attention, but he is choosing not to comment on it.]

If we need more firepower, I oan put a few explosives together.

[Wow why did this not come up at the trial...]

But it looks like we're working with conventional weapons for the most part.

[Galra sword and Altean bayard aside that is. He frowns for a moment before deactivating the bayard and holding it out to Kino.]

Humor me for a second. I just want to see what kind of weapon you'd manifest.

[He's presuming it's some kind of laser gun like Lance manifests, but he figures the blasts generated by an Altean pistol or rifle may do more damage than a standard bullet.]

[quickpersuader]

Explosives aren't too hard to make if you know what you're doing... Do we still have smoke bombs from the hunting store? If not, we should get more. I can make them myself, but there's no harm in just buying them instead.

[Though when he hands over the bayard, she looks up at him quizzically, setting down her food once again to stand and reach for it--

Causing it to manifest as what seems to be some sort of rifle, as he might have expected. Kino, for her part, looks surprised - although she will hold it properly, if experimentally.]

...Is that supposed to happen?

[marmoron]

[Ah, so it is a rifle. Keith nods to Kino's question.]

Like I said, a bayard will change forms depending on who's wielding it and what's needed at the time. It should be more powerful than a conventional gun. Could be useful as back up.

[He's already got his Marmora blade and doesn't necessarily need to be fighting with dual swords. But that said, it is his bayard and irreplaceable. Not a back up option he's super keen on, truth be told.]

If it comes to that and you end up borrowing it, I'm going to need it back undamaged. It's important.

As forthe smoke bombs... yeah, I still have 'em. If you want to make more explosives, I can help with that.

[Kino nods solemnly, turning the weapon to hand it back.]

Depends on the type of bomb we need. I've made do with pressure cookers and alarm clocks, too.
