Week 8 - May 20th - May 24th

Last Week

With the weekend's latest tragedy, a strange mood has descended over Cartesio. What happened was unprecedented, and perhaps that's why the already decreasing hostility from the townsfolk comes to a complete halt. Could it be the strange circumstances? Bolin's desperate plea? Last week's peaceful Wednesday? Some combination? Whatever the reason, it's clear that the Sergeant's iron fist around the town has loosened. While the residents aren't jumping to interact with you, there's no graffiti, no new broken windows.

Cartesio is confused...but open to explanation, for perhaps the first time.

Still, while the town seems amiable, almost accepting again, there's little to chase away the knowledge that the Sergeant's tasks for you are near their end, and that means those without medals are doomed to their fate.

Or does it? After everything that's turned around, is it possible for you to claw your way out of here as well?

[Today, Kino is stocking up on other supplies - a large and sturdy backpack for one, and other things that are great for traveling in particular. Although after she completes her purchase, others might see her lingering at the store, staring down at her card.]

This still has unlimited money until the end of the week...

[Hmmm...]

[Hardware Store - NPCs and PCs welcome!]

[After she puts away her new belongings, Kino marches over to the hardware store and places her card on the counter.]

I noticed you have blueprints for all of the buildings in town - that means you should be able to rebuild the diner, right?

Go ahead and charge me as much as you need upfront. You can even take extra if there's any uncertainty about costs. If there's any leftovers, it can just be donated to Mrs. Mitchell.

... ho~e? Kino-san, what are you thinking about doing?

I just thought...

There's a lot of things you can buy with unlimited money.

[Is that so, Kino.]

[clearities]

You're right. What were you planning on buying?

At first it was just supplies for when I leave, but...

The hardware store. They have blueprints for all the buildings in this town.

[clearities]

You think they might have a blueprint for the buildings that got all messed up and can fix that?

[quickpersuader]

I definitely saw them for all of the buildings except for the Lodge.

As long as they take all the money right away, it should be fine, right?

[clearities]

I think so?

[ she's not sure how it works. ] We can always ask...

[Still wearing a black suit (don't ask), Keith's listening in on this conversation and add:]

Rebuild the police station as well.

[quickpersuader]

[She half turns towards Keith.]

...Think we should just pay to rebuild everything?

[marmoron]

Might as well.

[They have infinite cash for some reason. What else are they going to do with it at this point...]

Maybe build a few new houses.

[It's as close to acknowledging the bad outcome where they may not be able to leave at all as it gets for Keith.]

[Plus it means more headaches for Sarge, maybe.]

You don't have to spare any expense. You could make them as comfy as you want.

What a consolation.

[That's dry as hell, but he'll pull out his own card for this. Not that he needs to because they can just put all this on Kino's card, but...]

Always wanted to live in a pointlessly large house with an armory and a pool.

You could have a big field for Cosmo to run around in, too... Pets?

Take Yakitori and collect any eggs she lays, maybe.

...hm. You know... I do have to wonder where you'd have to spend money to fix the organ. Is that still destroyed...?

Dunno. I haven't checked. But... I assume so.

Thinking of getting it fixed before we go?

Well, I never got to give it a go properly, but... maybe someday I'll get to try it out.

[ A man a few years older than Keith, probably, looks stunned at the card's sudden appearance, looking Kino up and down.

She'll notice, it's not with fear but confusion, and maybe...a little intrigue? ]

S-sir?

[ ...Here's one guy who's never gotten Kino's gender right. ]

Sorry... do I need to repeat it again?

[The words are genuine.]

We... Well, it would take some time... And I don't think you understand how much it would cost.

[quickpersuader]

Just charge it upfront and see what happens. The worst it could do is decline, right? And since you haven't done any work yet, it's no problem for you.

[cartesio]

Why...are you doing this?

I have a lot of money, and it just occurred to me that maybe it could fix some things here before I leave.
