Week 8 - May 20th - May 24th

Last Week

With the weekend's latest tragedy, a strange mood has descended over Cartesio. What happened was unprecedented, and perhaps that's why the already decreasing hostility from the townsfolk comes to a complete halt. Could it be the strange circumstances? Bolin's desperate plea? Last week's peaceful Wednesday? Some combination? Whatever the reason, it's clear that the Sergeant's iron fist around the town has loosened. While the residents aren't jumping to interact with you, there's no graffiti, no new broken windows.

Cartesio is confused...but open to explanation, for perhaps the first time.

Still, while the town seems amiable, almost accepting again, there's little to chase away the knowledge that the Sergeant's tasks for you are near their end, and that means those without medals are doomed to their fate.

Or does it? After everything that's turned around, is it possible for you to claw your way out of here as well?

Suppose that's a good deterrent.

[...but despite it all, he says it with a small smile.]

[He'll get one in return.]

That's what I'm here for.

[A pause.]

Is that what we're doing now? Threatening each other to stay safe.

[robitussin]

You don't need to threaten me. I've been staying safe starting... last week or so?

[marmoron]

That's what you say now. I'm sure something will come up again before we leave.

[robitussin]

...Maybe we can just both promise to not do anything dangerous unless we absolutely have to?

[marmoron]

[More seriously.]

Look. I'll have your back no matter what kind of trouble you put yourself in. Just... tell me if you're going to do something dangerous before you actually do it, okay?

[Just... some kind of warning maybe?? And maybe not hearing about it second hand from someone else would be great too??]

[robitussin]

[There's a pause for a moment, but her first thought is...]

Really?

[She's not exactly used to having someone in her corner.]

[marmoron]

...yeah? What did you think? That I was just gonna leave you to be brave alone?

[Please.]

I meant it you know.

[robitussin]

No, I know you weren't. Just...

[She shrugs.]

It's kind of - new to me. That's all.

[marmoron]

[A pause.]

Guess I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a lot ot things to get used to.

[robitussin]

[After a few moments:]

...Yeah. I’m glad, too, I guess.

[marmoron]

[In turn, he goes quiet for a moment.]

...You guess?

[robitussin]

I mean... It just seems weird to celebrate something like that. You know?

[marmoron]

..Is it weird?

[Earnest question there. After a moment though, he adds more seriously.]

Look. I just want you to know that I'm not giving up on you.

[Even if he's mad or upset or whatever. He looks away, his voice softer.]

So if there's ever something on your mind.. I'll listen.

[robitussin]

...I know. I'm not used to that, either.

[All the same...]

Same goes for you, you know.

[marmoron]

[It's weird thinking back on all the assumptions he'd made about Natalie's life before he really heard any concrete details about it.]

You deserve a whole lot better, you know.

[Caring friends, a family that was actually supportive. Things that are still new to him as well, in truth.]

[robitussin]

...So do you, you know.

[A breath.]

Maybe we can both find it.

[The 'together' is too embarrassing, so it goes unspoken.]

[marmoron]

[Frankly hes not convinced he deserves anything other than a good scolding from the paladins, but that's a thought he'll keep to himself.]

It?

[robitussin]

[After a few moments:]

You know. Something better.

[marmoron]

I know you can. If you put your mind to it.

[If Cartesio has taught him nothing else about Natalie, it's that she's a force to be reckoned with.]

[robitussin]

...You're way too nice to me.

[But she's smiling all the same.]
