Week 3: Investigation

This week's cloudy, dreary weather culminates in a thunderstorm, lasting most of the previous night. That means when you awake this morning, the town is damp and dark. It's not just the weather that gives off an oppressive feeling, though. The air, it's heavy.

The Sergeant told you, after all. This is your last day to prevent your deepest, darkest secrets from being revealed.

There's no immediate evidence that anyone's followed his orders, though. Maybe you'll get through this week without anymore unnecessary death.

Or, maybe not. Maybe you should take a look around town, just to be sure.

[ The pile doesn't quite sway, but if the kick's hard enough, Keith will hear a light clink, from the very top of it. Sounds like he knocked something loose...but it's not coming down.

He might have to go up to it. ]

[odasaku]

Looks like there’s something strange in that pile.

[shouting!!]

[That's weird. He'll try glancing up to see what made that noise before attempting to climb up to get a better look. From fighting a vicious war against an alien empire to climbing literal trash heaps. We're moving up in the world here boys.

What's there to see?]

[ Keith will find, if he climbs all the way up, that the car above all the others has no top. Moreover, all its doors are open. ]

[marmoron]

[Okay, that's... why. Shouting down to Oda:]

Can you climb? This car's missing a top and all the doors are open.

[Meanwhile: is there any way of telling how long ago the top was removed?]

[ No way to tell. There are a few things in the car, however. ]

[marmoron]

[Hrm, peering inside. What's going on inside this car?]

[cartesio]

[ Keith will find, on the floor of the backseat, an unopened bottle of hemlock extract. It seems that's what made the clinking noise. ]

[marmoron]

[Huh. Cool beans. Keith has no idea what hemlock is, but he'll assume this is somewhat relevant?

Does the bottle look like it just got thrown in the backseat all hail Mary or does it look like someone put it there carefully?]

[cartesio]

[ When you move, it rolls with the car, so it's probably safe to assume it was on the backseat itself, before Keith kicked the pile. ]

[odasaku]

Yeah, no problem.

[ well, oda's going to ??? climb over to the car to peer inside-- what's inside it? ]

[cartesio]

[ Sitting in the backseat, there's an unopened container of motor oil, with a box of matches sitting next to it. ]

[odasaku]

[ well, oda's gonna take those... is the box of matches full? ]

[cartesio]

[ Yes, it's completely full. ]
