Week 3: Trial

April 20th. It was now time for the trial.

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Compared to last week, there's less morbid curiosity and more quiet outrage. Everyone's glaring at the visitors while they enter the courtroom.

The number of podiums draped in black has increased dramatically. Nine's, Mako's, Sandalphon's, and Bakugou's have joined Moloch's, raising the number to five. That's one sixth of the available podiums. How many more will be covered in black velvet before these two months end?

Once everyone is at the right podium, the Sergeant bangs his gavel. He doesn't seem to be in better mood than before.

"Today the victim is Katsuki Bakugou. Solve it."

Without even bothering to taunt or be as antagonistic as usual, he waves the gavel. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. Start your discussion."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

[ Shrug, his slight smirk probably doesn't help any. ]

Tell that to 'em. I've fought the brat before, I know what his quirk does and how he thinks.

[doublelammy]

All I want is for you to stop calling him a brat. At least for the trial!

He's... he's already dead. Isn't that enough for you?!

[amburere]

He was our mark first. [ And that's said seriously, he's actually not thrilled about all of this either. So in a way, yeah his death matters. ]

[unfashionably]

You mean that "explosion quirk"?

[doublelammy]

Bakugou could make things blow up. He showed me a couple of times...

[She is using his name.]

S-so, yeah. It... sounds like he fought back.

[unfashionably]

[ A short pause and then, gently: ]

Thanks for telling us. I think even knowing that much helps point us in the right direction.

[amburere]

Yeah. His quirk could make explosions concentrated from his fists. Could use it for utility in combat, augmenting his movement and all that.

[unfashionably]

So he was a pretty tough fighter?

[amburere]

Best in 1-A. He was an idiot, but good at thinking on his feet.

[ Have acknowledgement you're too dead to hear Bakugou. ]

[unfashionably]

How many people on this list do you think could take him on if he were being serious?

[amburere]

He was always serious when it came to fighting. [ Looking at the suspect pool again, he slides his hands into his pockets. ]

Doubt anyone who was quirkless could do it. 'specially since he had time to fight back. [ A beat. ] Superhuman strength counts as a quirk.

Basically, me or Olympia?

[amburere]

Yeah. [ There's a chance the other suspects have a power that he's not grasping here, but just going off that he's pretty confident. ]

Don't think it's you, either. [ It's still early and there are other things they should figure out, but hey. That's his opinion and he's sticking to it unless proved wrong. ]

[He agrees, Bakugo was a brat.]

[ Nod. ]

He was always pretty good at destruction.

That really must be true. The destruction spreads to so very many areas...
