Week 3: Trial

April 20th. It was now time for the trial.

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Compared to last week, there's less morbid curiosity and more quiet outrage. Everyone's glaring at the visitors while they enter the courtroom.

The number of podiums draped in black has increased dramatically. Nine's, Mako's, Sandalphon's, and Bakugou's have joined Moloch's, raising the number to five. That's one sixth of the available podiums. How many more will be covered in black velvet before these two months end?

Once everyone is at the right podium, the Sergeant bangs his gavel. He doesn't seem to be in better mood than before.

"Today the victim is Katsuki Bakugou. Solve it."

Without even bothering to taunt or be as antagonistic as usual, he waves the gavel. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. Start your discussion."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

Nothing worth saying, and I can't say it was anything worth hiding either. Especially 'cause it isn't actually a secret.

[ He sighs quietly and then looks down at his podium. ]

Guess I can't get away without sayin' it, huh? All right. ... Something bad happened to my guild. We lost a fight. A pretty big one, and in a pretty bad way. That's what my secret was—that I wasn't strong enough to protect them when it mattered most.

[odasaku]

That...sounds tough. I'm sorry.

[amburere]

[ Actually interjecting helpfully here. ]

Yeah, he showed me Tuesday.

[odasaku]

Sounds like you two are close.

[ he nods. ur help is very appreciated! ]

[amburere]

[ ........................................... ]

I just told him not to eat plain plastic.

Yeah, but... it was worse for them. They're the ones who had to see that pathetic side of me. [ Awkwardly, he rubs the back of his neck. ] But we got back up, that's what that stupid piece of paper doesn't tell you. The fact that we did? That matters more than how hard we fell.

[odasaku]

Mm, that is important. If you got back up after something like that, then you shouldn't be ashamed of yourself.

[amburere]

[ Anything huh. ]

Was it better with the sprinkles?

[unfashionably]

[ That takes him by surprise. ]

Everything's better with sprinkles.

Good to know. [ Things that are absolutely relevant to trial. ]

Um... well, could you explain your magic? I'm really not sure a power other than Bakugou-san's was used, but it's the only skill here I don't really understand, so might as well cover the bases.

[unfashionably]

I can if you want, but I'll go ahead and tell you: I can't use any magic right now. Not really.

[pecker]

Eh? Why not?

[unfashionably]

My guess is as good as yours. I woke up here and couldn't use any of my magic. Best I can manage is White Drive, but it doesn't give me any of the boosts it usually does.

I can confirm that our abilities have been limited.

So, there's also stuff on your profile that you can't do?

Variable configuration, energy weaponry... I'm not sure I would call my current strength "superhuman," either.

E-Even so, I'd feel a lot better if the one confirming this wasn't also a suspect... I think to be safe, both of your full capabilities would be good to know.
