Week 3: Trial

April 20th. It was now time for the trial.

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Compared to last week, there's less morbid curiosity and more quiet outrage. Everyone's glaring at the visitors while they enter the courtroom.

The number of podiums draped in black has increased dramatically. Nine's, Mako's, Sandalphon's, and Bakugou's have joined Moloch's, raising the number to five. That's one sixth of the available podiums. How many more will be covered in black velvet before these two months end?

Once everyone is at the right podium, the Sergeant bangs his gavel. He doesn't seem to be in better mood than before.

"Today the victim is Katsuki Bakugou. Solve it."

Without even bothering to taunt or be as antagonistic as usual, he waves the gavel. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. Start your discussion."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

[Millium just levels a dead stare across the podiums.]

After last week, I don't trust any of you up there.

[Shrugs??]

[She is not even remotely playing around today.]

I don't have any reasons to go after Katsuki. Why the hell would I kill anyone here if we all know that the Sergeant can't be trusted to keep his word about letting us go home anyway?

Guilty until proven innocent, Keith.

[Not that he sounds super big on the concept.]

Had something in that envelope you needed to hide?

[marmoron]

[There's a pause, a bit of an angered look.]

No. I told everyone that would have been hurt by what was in that envelope already. I just didn't use those specific words.

[carbide]

It's likely that only one suspect is guilty.

[She's looking at Clarisse. Shocking, I know.]

[streetwolf]

Uh...You're on the list too you know?

[carbide]

I'm aware.

[No change in tone whatsoever.]

[streetwolf]

Right, so long as you know.....[Um]

[doublelammy]

Yeah, and you're up there, too.

So.

What was in your envelope, Olympia? 'Cause if I know anything about you, it's that you're pretty big on secrets.

[carbide]

[...Olympia did not expect to be affected by having Millium speak to her that way.]

Directions.

[doublelammy]

Directions to what?

[She might apologize later if it turns out to not be Olympia, but...]

Listen, Olympia. All I know is that my friend is dead, and he was really strong.

...And so are you. So if anyone up there is lookin' suspicious to me right now, it's you.

[carbide]

[Olympia continues responding in monotone. The only indication that Millium's suspicion is hurting her is that she turns away.]

Directions to a certain location in the Yggdrasil Labyrinth.

[She can practically hear the next question already, though.]

Where a certain person will be soon. Normally I would be with him, but because of all this, he'll be alone.

[robitussin]

[There’s a sigh as she glances his way.]

Can we save your tantrum for after we find out who did?

Fine.

Clarisse what the hell were you up to last night?

[snideper]

Hah! Wow, that didn't take you very long, didn't? You've got a lot of nerve, acting like you're in any place to try interrogating me.

[But she very clearly thinks it's absolutely hilarious.]

I keep to myself at night. Get dinner, get outta the way. Take some time to work on weapons maintenance up in my room while there's no one up to bother me.

[The only reason she isn't interrogating him back is that Kino beat her to it.]

You can ask me whatever you want right back, Clarisse.

[Deadpaaaaaan.]

So you were awake in your room all night and you never left it.

[quickpersuader]

Keith.

[Kino's voice remains calm and level, not in the least bit accusatory.]

I overheard you and Bakugo at the park on Thursday. It's possible you might have been one of the last people to see him before he died.

Could you tell me what you were doing then? And, if you can, anything about his behavior?

[It might be a stretch, but they need whatever they can get right now.]

[marmoron]

[Kino's getting a bit of scowl, but he does oblige with an answer.]

We talked about it at the meeting on Tuesday. Everyone else was there.

[A beat.]

We were trying to lure out the reporter by causing a scene that they might write about. Didn't go anywehre, didn't see anyone that looked like they might be a journalist. Katsuki was acting like himself. I didn't think anything was off,

We split up and the next time I saw him was at the chapel. [You know. Dead.]

The last person who saw him was probably Hawks. The two of them were doing patrols together.

[quickpersuader]

[Kino gives a nod.]

I see. Thank you for telling me. Did you end up patrolling last night as well?

[marmoron]

No. After that incident at the park, I wasn't about to draw more attention to myself from the folk in town by wandering around at night.

[Jail wasn't fun, tl;dr.]

I was in my room.

Keith is right, I was with Bakugou until about one in the morning. We had gone around on patrol.

[Yeah, Hawks isn't feeling particularly great knowing he was most likely the last (friendly) face Bakugou saw.]
