Week 3: Trial

April 20th. It was now time for the trial.

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Compared to last week, there's less morbid curiosity and more quiet outrage. Everyone's glaring at the visitors while they enter the courtroom.

The number of podiums draped in black has increased dramatically. Nine's, Mako's, Sandalphon's, and Bakugou's have joined Moloch's, raising the number to five. That's one sixth of the available podiums. How many more will be covered in black velvet before these two months end?

Once everyone is at the right podium, the Sergeant bangs his gavel. He doesn't seem to be in better mood than before.

"Today the victim is Katsuki Bakugou. Solve it."

Without even bothering to taunt or be as antagonistic as usual, he waves the gavel. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. Start your discussion."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

It'd take a pretty stupid person to be walking around with poison still in their pockets, but a pocket check sounds like a start.

No, but paying attention to what happens in the world is part of being a good guild master.

Pretty big difference between paying attention to the world around you and knowing a bunch of weird details about what happens to a person after they've been drowned. Latter's awfully specific.

[There's a pause.]

You could probably take Bakugou on in a fight, couldn't you.

[unfashionably]

[ Ah, he sees where this is going. ]

I guess. I think I said this earlier, but everyone on that list has some form of combat listed in the guestbook. I think that's why we're up there.

Combat skills sure. But combat skills mean shit if you're going up against a kid who also has combat skills and causes explosions everywhere.

You're gonna need some special powers to handle that without a problem. I wouldn't pick that fight.

I already said this, but... I don't actually have any magic here. The stuff you see on the guestbook? As it is now, it's purely cosmetic.

If you wanna ask me if I killed him, you can, but I'll save you some time. I didn't kill Bakugou.

Purely cosmetic meaning what? You've got nothing or it's been toned the hell down?

[Clearing that up.]

And that's what we're all saying. so clearly one of us is lying.
