Week 3 - Trial

Week 3: Trial

April 20th. It was now time for the trial.

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Compared to last week, there's less morbid curiosity and more quiet outrage. Everyone's glaring at the visitors while they enter the courtroom.

The number of podiums draped in black has increased dramatically. Nine's, Mako's, Sandalphon's, and Bakugou's have joined Moloch's, raising the number to five. That's one sixth of the available podiums. How many more will be covered in black velvet before these two months end?

Once everyone is at the right podium, the Sergeant bangs his gavel. He doesn't seem to be in better mood than before.
"Today the victim is Katsuki Bakugou. Solve it."

Without even bothering to taunt or be as antagonistic as usual, he waves the gavel. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. Start your discussion."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

[ Cian's been awfully pale and quiet for most of the trial so far. There's so much conflict in the air and it makes her feel overwhelmed and sick. Accusations, accusations and more accusations... Her head feels like it's about to burst.

Still, she's not the type to raise her voice, so when she does insert her opinion, it's pretty level and shy. ]

Everyone's tense, I understand that, but... shouldn't we maybe think about what happened, before we decide who was capable of doing it?

We know there was a fight and the wall of the church got blown up, but... what came first? Who went where? How did Bakugou-kun die...? There's so many questions and all the bad blood is just.... it's distracting us, isn't it?

[ Nobody may know, but for Cian's standards this is the closest thing to an angry outburst. ]

Chances are, the culprit started out in the junkyard and prepared a couple things for murder. It was someone who wasn't payin' attention to the first trial, 'cause they made the same mistake as Nine and brought motor oil. We already said it isn't as flammable as you might think, so I guess that means it was someone who didn't know that too.

After that, best guess is the fight started in the graveyard and progressed to the Chapel.

The way the wall was blown up fits with that. Looked like it was done from the outside.

[If he's doing explosion physics right.]

Then that begs the question... why? Was it an accident as Bakugou-kun was trying to hit his opponent or did he mean to do it...?

Maybe it was quicker than walking in.

[Like he's really not putting it past that guy.]

One reason is they were running and evading him, which would point to someone who can't fight him head-on. Another reason is they ran and hid in the chapel.

What DO we think happened first... whatever was going on in the junkyard? I mean, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the fight...

Somebody said this earlier, but I think I agree with it. It was probably someone who didn't care how they killed, only that they killed. They picked a bunch of stuff that could cause damage and collected it in case they needed it.

From there, they would probably cornered Bakugou in the graveyard, somehow.

[ a pause. ]

Does anyone know if his ability worked in the rain?

If he's the one who caused the damage on the headstone, it must've. Didn't someone say it looked like the headstone exploded?
odasaku: (48)

[personal profile] odasaku 2018-10-20 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, yeah, but Olympia can generate electricity. That and water can make some large explosions, too, I think.

In theory, but not safely.
pecker: (mmmm?)

[personal profile] pecker 2018-10-20 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oda-san seemed to have a theory that the headstone was blown up with electricity instead. Although the church was also entered by the huge explosion, so we'd have to explain that as well.
unfashionably: (a side-eye sting)

[personal profile] unfashionably 2018-10-20 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It isn't a bad theory. Lightning magic can do amazing stuff, including smashing a pile of rocks. I don't know if I believe that's what happened, but it's as good a guess as any.
icariot: (somber)

[personal profile] icariot 2018-10-20 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It was limited in the rain, but usable. The explosions were based on sweat released from his palms.

[Sorry Bakugou, your quirk can't be a secret anymore.]
odasaku: (11)

[personal profile] odasaku 2018-10-20 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
So it would’ve been easier for him to use indoors, then. Maybe some of those explosions are his, then, but not all of them.
icariot: (4. Negative-- nepotist)

[personal profile] icariot 2018-10-20 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's possible. I wouldn't discount them all being his, though. He is--was--good at being creative with his quirk.
odasaku: (20)

[personal profile] odasaku 2018-10-20 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
But he couldn’t have been blind either. The culprit had to have been incredibly fast in order to dodge the explotions.
unfashionably: frowning, bit perplexed (you try to explain)

[personal profile] unfashionably 2018-10-20 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Come to think of it, weren't the conditions pretty poor? If it was pouring rain, it wouldn't have been that easy for either of them to see.
odasaku: (19)

[personal profile] odasaku 2018-10-20 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
On the outside, yeah. But most of the damage was in the inside. Although maybe neither of them could see from the smoke.
carbide: (B10F. Fire walk of fortitude)

[personal profile] carbide 2018-10-20 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Or darkness. I do not know whether the chapel is kept illuminated at night.
