Week 3 - Trial

Week 3: Trial

April 20th. It was now time for the trial.

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Compared to last week, there's less morbid curiosity and more quiet outrage. Everyone's glaring at the visitors while they enter the courtroom.

The number of podiums draped in black has increased dramatically. Nine's, Mako's, Sandalphon's, and Bakugou's have joined Moloch's, raising the number to five. That's one sixth of the available podiums. How many more will be covered in black velvet before these two months end?

Once everyone is at the right podium, the Sergeant bangs his gavel. He doesn't seem to be in better mood than before.
"Today the victim is Katsuki Bakugou. Solve it."

Without even bothering to taunt or be as antagonistic as usual, he waves the gavel. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. Start your discussion."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

Yes. From the way so many people spoke while we were investigating it doesn't seem that it would exactly narrow the field, but...

[He shrugs, hands upraised, because there's nothing to say that isn't just repeating himself, about that.]

Well... maybe? I mean, I'm not sure I could see Olympia-san doing that. She's been mostly flippant about, um, Jesus.

Flippant speech doesn't always match the speaker's actions. Still....

I'd talked with Olympia about it, she wanted to investigate Jesus.

[He might have enabled it.]

Huh, I stand corrected.

How much did you discuss?

[The absurdity of this - that he's seriously asking if Jughead catechized a girl who is apparently actually some sort of animate doll - is overwhelming. It's a true miracle he's only got a bewildered look on his face and he isn't laughing himself sick.]

[He shrugs.]

She said it might be worth investigating, I told her to go for it. Didn't really get in depth.

So she'd only have been aware of that if her own research brought it up, and so far we don't seem to have a library. Another dead end, I suppose. Damn it.

I have read their Bible.

[Yes, all of it. She reads fast and she doesn't need to sleep all night every night.]

But I have no loyalty to their god.
