Week 3: Trial

April 20th. It was now time for the trial.

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Compared to last week, there's less morbid curiosity and more quiet outrage. Everyone's glaring at the visitors while they enter the courtroom.

The number of podiums draped in black has increased dramatically. Nine's, Mako's, Sandalphon's, and Bakugou's have joined Moloch's, raising the number to five. That's one sixth of the available podiums. How many more will be covered in black velvet before these two months end?

Once everyone is at the right podium, the Sergeant bangs his gavel. He doesn't seem to be in better mood than before.

"Today the victim is Katsuki Bakugou. Solve it."

Without even bothering to taunt or be as antagonistic as usual, he waves the gavel. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. Start your discussion."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

I'm still not sure what those marks in the mud were, but I think this kinda rules you out for real. I don't know how you'd've fought him without getting up close.

She doesn't say anything, but her shoulders drop slightly, like someone finally relaxing after being tense for a while.]

Maybe we should try to figure out what those were.

What did they look like? Did they have a shape that looked like a footprint? Or was it different?

Couldn't tell. They were just small indents, like something had been forced into the mud. One by the grave, a cluster on the way to the chapel. All pretty small.

But, you know, rain.

Olympia's feet are smaller than everyone else's, aren't they? And their shape seems more distinct.

Yeah, but she would’ve most likely been blown up by Bakugou. She said she fights at melee range.

What kind of projectiles would just have one indent, then a whole bunch of them somewhere else?

...do we have any way to bring mud into here to check against each suspect's steps?

I'd offer to bend some here, but I need to be pretty close to bend it. I haven't tested my range, so I can't tell you how close exactly.

...we've probably tracked some around with our investigations. Could you gather as much as possible together? The most important property we probably need to check is depth. [Not to mention they're running out of time.]

I mean, sure...? I can even smooth the mud back out after we look at each footprint.

[ so I guess. bolin is going to try to bend the mud off everyone's shoes to make a small mud pile?? ]
