Week 3: Trial

April 20th. It was now time for the trial.

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Compared to last week, there's less morbid curiosity and more quiet outrage. Everyone's glaring at the visitors while they enter the courtroom.

The number of podiums draped in black has increased dramatically. Nine's, Mako's, Sandalphon's, and Bakugou's have joined Moloch's, raising the number to five. That's one sixth of the available podiums. How many more will be covered in black velvet before these two months end?

Once everyone is at the right podium, the Sergeant bangs his gavel. He doesn't seem to be in better mood than before.

"Today the victim is Katsuki Bakugou. Solve it."

Without even bothering to taunt or be as antagonistic as usual, he waves the gavel. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. Start your discussion."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

I'm not talking about what you would want to do, I'm talking about what she would expect you to do. I mean, I don't know her or anything, but someone handling a group of assassins doesn't seem like the most understanding or forgiving person. Even if you think you made the right call, would she be okay with you vanishing and then bringing back more problems when you get home?

Everything I'd "want" to do is in service of Lady Eremiya. Everything. [she apparently has no awareness whatsoever about how fucked that sounds] If I take out that garbage prince, that's it, the mission's over, we've won; nothing else matters. I know my target, what he's capable of, and have a plan to eradicate him—That's the prince. It would be a waste of time to deal with some nobody here.

... what makes this Lady Eremiya so special that you want to follow her everywhere and in everything?

[ Personal curiosity compels to ask. ]

She brought all of us up from the dirt. She crafted a bunch of lost nobodies into the most capable army in Archanea. We're nothing without her and her guidance.

[again, completely unaware of how ABSOLUTELY FUCKED this all sounds]

[if you're gonna get vaguely fond of her for no good reason then this is just PART OF THE PACKAGE, MY DUDE!!! LEARN TO DEAL]

That's not really what I asked. If you came back and had to tell her that there were more people you had to take out because of what happened here, would she be pissed? Because it's not just the prince and his fiance or whatever that you said would be an issue. You mentioned other people who might find out, too.

Don't you dare think you're important enough to try getting into Lady Eremiya's head.

[ah, she's mad about that]

If I come back and I tell her Prince Marth is dead, I'd receive nothing but praise. Chaos has always been our most important tool; if I want to take a team to eradicate some other noble farts in the meantime and we get the chance to disrupt the continent further while the rest of our plan comes to fruition without that trash royal's interruption, it would be a pleasure. A reward, if anything.

[robitussin]

Oh my god, calm down. I don't care about your offended sensibilities, I'm trying to figure something out.

[She tilts her head.]

So if you got home, you'd just take care of him before telling her what went on?

[snideper]

There's no use keeping secrets from Lady Eremiya. She'd have to know where I went, if nothing else.

But if I come back with that prince's head, the rest of it doesn't matter. Our whole mission depends on that.
