[ well, that was definitely A Trial.

however, oda understands that everyone must be feeling a little heavy, considering the death of someone like jughead and whatever bullshit dazai said earlier.

so, at everyone's door is a note that says the following:

If you don't want to be alone, come to the diner.

There's food.

oda himself is at the diner, although there's no food on his table, nor is he being a very good host of a party. he's just sitting alone at a table next to a window, staring out of it in deep thought. ]

It appears Crane was the one to make the burger, poison it with cyanide, and either leave or offer it for Jughead. Then Nylund happened upon it and added the strychnine, likely because she didn't know it was already poisoned. And decided after seeing Jughead eat it, and perhaps not succumb fast enough, to finish him with the gun.

Oh... I get it. She was worried he'd talk. I wonder what they were thinking when they found out two people had done it.

Probably each hoping that the other one would be the only one caught. Or perhaps hoping to pin it on Oda and Dazai. [Since they're a couple partners.]

Yeah. I bothered Kino for a bit but didn't think it was them. I just don't believe Crane had it in him. Not after his big show about getting people to own up before.

The old lady... I don't know. Never talked to her, kinda wish I did now.

[A nod.] The most I spoke to her was when she was worrying about Gerard being dangerous.

Is it? I'm not quite sure what the fuck he is but I'm guessing it's cool otherwise it wouldn't be a pet.

She was worried about his teeth. Apparently she knows about a movie where resurrected prehistoric creatures go on a rampage. But Gerard is quite tame.

[streetwolf]

Hah. He seems more friendly than a lizard I know. I wasn't allowed near it, but the thing hissed at anyone but it's owner.

Some Pokemon are like that too. But Gerard greatly enjoys meeting new people and tasting new foods.

[streetwolf]

Hope he gets plenty of that here. At least someone can be enjoying themselves then.

[A nod.] He even seems fond of the Sergeant. And the Sergeant seems fond of him in return.

[streetwolf]

Well now I'm questioning the little guys tastes...

[A shrug.] It appears the Sergeant treats animals better than people.

[streetwolf]

I thought animals where supposed to have a sixth sense about this stuff?

He was hatched and raised by me. I suppose that might have dulled some of his caution.

[streetwolf]

I guess that explains why he's so tame. Can't imagine doing anything like that. Looking out for brats that can run around is already a pain in the ass.

[A slight chuckle.] Well, most Pokemon can take care of themselves easier than human children, even the just-hatched ones. [Egg moves, man.]

[streetwolf]

If you say so. I've never seen anything 'just hatched' that didn't die in a breeze.

[silvertongueheir]

...well, there are some Baby Pokemon that are more fragile than usual, but they're all pretty independent once they hatch. They can move around and see already, unlike human babies.

[streetwolf]

...Wait, babies can't see?

[What?]

Not as clearly, I believe. Baby Pokemon are usually quite clear-eyed from the moment they hatch. And there've been a few studies on what kind of symbols they can recognize from birth.

I wouldn't know anything about that. I've only ever seen one... Are they all so grabby?

[silvertongueheir]

It depends. Though I feel most newborns, of any species, have the desire to seek out comfort and affection.

[streetwolf]

Is trying to eat hair affection for babies then? Cause little Yuuji kept grabbing at mine.

[silvertongueheir]

Well, I suppose that could just be an attempt to suckle. It's one of the few things babies do regularly, after all.
