Week 7: May 13th - May 17th

Seventh Week

The tense truce that had covered Cartesio was over. The town, feeling betrayed after having given a chance to the outsiders, pushed back. Enraged, they started getting even more daring, starting to get into the tourists' only safe haven: their motel rooms. They don't manage to break in, but it's not unusual to hear thumping on the doors, someone trying to get in. The windows are almost perpetually broken, there's so much graffiti on the ground floor of the motel, both inside and outside, it's hard to know what each one is saying. Can't be anything good, that's the only thing that's certain. The lounge's furniture has been tore to pieces, the lobby only has the guestbook intact, and the planters in middle of the motel are broken, the soil and plants strewn around.

The residents of Cartesio are near their breaking point. The despair, fury, and desire to get rid of the outsiders so everyone can return to their peaceful lives, have covered the town. It won't take long before they reach their breaking point, and if they do...what will happen to the visitors?

The Sergeant's grip on the town is total, and next week is the one marked as END. It seems like there's no way out, like the Sergeant won.

But you can't lose hope. You have to remember: now that you're on your darkest hour, the only way lef to go is upwards. Things can get better, you have to make it happen!

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again. Don't mind that some of them have been damaged in one of the attacks on the motel.

[Goddamnit, why's everyone and their dog calling him this now.]

We don't have time to be messing around. We still haven't figured out what the hell the Sergeant's planning, and the clock's ticking real fast on that. You and everyone else need to wake up.

With an attitude like that, you'd think you'd appreciate the monument.

Why would I appreciate people wasting their time perving around and sculpting me in a loincloth?

It's kind of like getting a medal for being the most aware person here, isn't it? Especially since the terrified kidnapping victim you threatened with a sword last week because you're so aware of how much danger we're in was too drugged up for it to actually cause any problems.

[marmoron]

[...]

What are you talking about....

[protectandselfserve]

I'm talking about how you could could stand to be a little less high strung. You can accomplish more with a gentler hand, you know!

[marmoron]

[Sounds fake.]

Guess I just don't know how to be gentle then.

Well, it'll be your funeral when that sort of thing is necessary, I suppose.

[marmoron]

That's what teamwork is for.

[protectandselfserve]

It's hard to work as a team if you prematurely sabotage your fellows' efforts by charging in like a starving dog into an unguarded hot dog stand.

[marmoron]

[That's one hell of an analogy and for a moment, Keith seems like he might respond to it, but instead...]

You think I'm the liability here.

[He recognizes thinly veiled threats when he hears them alright.]

More that you could be if you don't learn to cool your head a bit.

[There's a pause, then Keith turns to face Gant -- grats, now you've got his full attention.]

And if I don't. You planning on doing something about it?

Well, I can't exactly tell you to turn in your badge, and even if you are a loose canon you do get results in other areas. You're not really even the worst offender in this regard, so I'd rather give you friendly advice than give you the cold shoulder, you know?

[marmoron]

[Friendly advice, huh...]

Look. I'm dead serious about getting home. All of us getting home. If I'm the reason why we don't, nobody's going to be more angry about it than me. I know when to back off and let other handle the talking.

[protectandselfserve]

Good! Good to hear. Like I said, I do think you've been pretty helpful, but this week's little incident left me a bit... concerned.

[marmoron]

You can say whatever you like, but the odds of something dangerous coming out of that chest and posing an actual threat were higher than the odds of that thing being harmless, especially when the Sergeant's involved. None of us are getting home if we all die either.

[protectandselfserve]

True, I suppose. At least you weren't suggesting we murder him to keep him in one place.

[marmoron]

Killing innocent civilians isn't my preferred solution to a problem, no.

[A beat.]

But you're a cop. I'm sure you've had to make a few calls that left some collateral damage.

[protectandselfserve]

Well, we try not to, but... it's happened once or twice, unfortunately. It's always a big regret whenever it happens, of course...
