Week 7: May 13th - May 17th

Seventh Week

The tense truce that had covered Cartesio was over. The town, feeling betrayed after having given a chance to the outsiders, pushed back. Enraged, they started getting even more daring, starting to get into the tourists' only safe haven: their motel rooms. They don't manage to break in, but it's not unusual to hear thumping on the doors, someone trying to get in. The windows are almost perpetually broken, there's so much graffiti on the ground floor of the motel, both inside and outside, it's hard to know what each one is saying. Can't be anything good, that's the only thing that's certain. The lounge's furniture has been tore to pieces, the lobby only has the guestbook intact, and the planters in middle of the motel are broken, the soil and plants strewn around.

The residents of Cartesio are near their breaking point. The despair, fury, and desire to get rid of the outsiders so everyone can return to their peaceful lives, have covered the town. It won't take long before they reach their breaking point, and if they do...what will happen to the visitors?

The Sergeant's grip on the town is total, and next week is the one marked as END. It seems like there's no way out, like the Sergeant won.

But you can't lose hope. You have to remember: now that you're on your darkest hour, the only way lef to go is upwards. Things can get better, you have to make it happen!

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again. Don't mind that some of them have been damaged in one of the attacks on the motel.

I didn't do anything.

[God, his mood is off to a wonderful start this morning. Still wriggling to try and reach his bayard:]

You gonna help or not?

[quickpersuader]

[Jiiii.]

...Okay. But there's some stuff I'd like to get done today, too. Do you mind helping me carry a TV back to the motel?

[She is, at least, pulling a knife from one of her pouches. It's not from the hunting store- it's one with a weirdly thick grip.]

[marmoron]

Sure. I need to talk to you anyway.

[But he doesn't look too happy about it. He's glancing at the knife when he speaks.]

That from home?

[quickpersuader]

Yeah. I got it from an... interesting person in a country I traveled to once.

[It's a plenty good knife though, and she uses it to cut him free.]

[marmoron]

[And once he's free, he'll give his arms a quick rub, then:]

Thanks.

[A beat.]

What was so interesting about them?

[quickpersuader]

He really liked persuaders... as collectors' items. He couldn't stand the thought of weapons being used to kill. He hated knives so much, he gave this one to me.

[And back into the pouch it goes.]

We can talk as we walk.

[Onward?]

[marmoron]

[Onward!]

...Interesting's one word for that, alright.

[He's glancing downwards at the streets as they walk.]

[quickpersuader]

[Real interesting.]

Anyway, what did you want to talk to me about?

[marmoron]

[There's some slight reluctance, but eventually.]

Found out what was causing all the damage that wasn't caused by us or the dead.

[quickpersuader]

[Kino tilts her head towards him, curious.]

Oh?

[marmoron]

[His tone's flat as he speaks. Or as close to it as he can manage anyway.]

The Sergeant's been cutting deals to protect certain individuals in exchange for completing some tasks.

[quickpersuader]

[There's a brief pause like she expects there to be more before she prompts:]

Okay. So who did it?

[marmoron]

[Another beat of hesitation.]

Natalie.

[quickpersuader]

Ah.

[How about that.]

To protect you?

[marmoron]

[...]

Several people.

[quickpersuader]

Are you actually going to say who, or no?

[marmoron]

I'm one of them. I'm pretty sure Dazai and Jughead were the others.

[A beat, frowning.]

I don't know that for certain. In a way, it might've been all of us indirectly. She's the one who smashed the fire station console. The townsfolk never had any evidence to prove it was you and Dabi who burned the place down.

[quickpersuader]

[Kino tips her chin into her hand.]

I see... I figured the Sergeant was using some kind of influence, but not one of us.

I already knew she could be gutsy, but I think I've still underestimated her.

[marmoron]

She's stubborn alright.

[There's a mix of exasperation and respect in there though.]

[quickpersuader]

Maybe that's why you two make a good team.

[marmoron]

[...Holy shit, why does everyone keep saying this? He's just going to clear his throat immediately and act like this was not a thing that he heard.]

Kino. What do you think the Sergeant needs volunteers for the executions for?

[quickpersuader]

[H E H.

Anyway.]

Because he's not supposed to kill anyone himself?

[marmoron]

And he's not supposed to be damaging the town either. That's why he keeps using us to do it.

[A pause.]

You think it's possible that all that crap he did at the hangar the other day... that all of that was just in our heads?

[quickpersuader]

[Her eyes narrow.]

Like he's messing with our perceptions somehow?

[marmoron]

Yeah. We already know he does that with the locations on the map. Same story with those blank case records I saw at the police station.
