Week 7: May 13th - May 17th

Seventh Week

The tense truce that had covered Cartesio was over. The town, feeling betrayed after having given a chance to the outsiders, pushed back. Enraged, they started getting even more daring, starting to get into the tourists' only safe haven: their motel rooms. They don't manage to break in, but it's not unusual to hear thumping on the doors, someone trying to get in. The windows are almost perpetually broken, there's so much graffiti on the ground floor of the motel, both inside and outside, it's hard to know what each one is saying. Can't be anything good, that's the only thing that's certain. The lounge's furniture has been tore to pieces, the lobby only has the guestbook intact, and the planters in middle of the motel are broken, the soil and plants strewn around.

The residents of Cartesio are near their breaking point. The despair, fury, and desire to get rid of the outsiders so everyone can return to their peaceful lives, have covered the town. It won't take long before they reach their breaking point, and if they do...what will happen to the visitors?

The Sergeant's grip on the town is total, and next week is the one marked as END. It seems like there's no way out, like the Sergeant won.

But you can't lose hope. You have to remember: now that you're on your darkest hour, the only way lef to go is upwards. Things can get better, you have to make it happen!

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again. Don't mind that some of them have been damaged in one of the attacks on the motel.

[ The cassette plays the Beatles exactly as advertised and that's that...

... meanwhile an old-fashioned TV flickers to live and it's playing a very low quality video.

It starts with noise and grain that makes it almost impossible to tell what's being filmed, but after a little bit it becomes clear that the place being shown is... Cartesio. A Cartesio almost fully devoid of people. The video takes the viewer through the streets a bit and occasionally there is someone to be seen. Someone you might have seen executed. Or someone Sakura might still know from early days long past.

The video ends on a frontal view of Franciscus and he is talking - too bad there's no audio and the graininess makes mouth reading impossible. ]

[What the...

Is there any way to tell where Franciscus is? Buildings, landmarks, anything?]

[...Right then. Time to double check the obvious. Is there a VCR hooked up to the TV that's accounting for Franciscus's audition for the Blair witch project?

Alternatively, what happens if Keith just... fucking waves at the screen?]

[ There is a VCR hooked up and there are cameras and spare tapes around that enable to making of more fun and fresh home videos!

Waving at the screen does absolutely nothing. Sorry, Keith. ]

[Fuck diplomacy. Got it. It's vlog time.

He'll set the camera on record. He is, of course, so thrilled to be doing this so all of y'all are getting treated to some scowling. What he says is...]

Hey, pervs and degenerates. Wave if this is getting through.

[...Time to play this back on a TV? See what happens.]

[ What happens is that the video plays - only without audio. Hrm, annoying.

There's a little break and then the screen comes back to life with an answer video.

First there is Cian, facing the camera with a serious expression. And then she bows so deeply that her head almost leaves the video and stays like that for a little bit. Once she comes back up, the video moves on.

Now there is a blue-haired child who is unfamiliar to Keith who is holding up a piece of paper. There may be writing on it, but the noise is too strong to read it.
Olympia steps next to the stranger and places her hands over her ears. Then the video ends. ]

[Keith does not appreciate this censorship!!

His expression is decidedly a little less ticked off when he sees Cian though, but that doesn't last long because the blue haired child just... ??? M-Millium??? Then he's right back to linefacing at Olympia. Before that video feed can end, he's shouting over his shoulder at the rest of the people gathered here on their side.]

Guys. Anyone recognize her?

[Then he'll be grabbing the camera again. Time to think of how to send a message without relying on audio. He'll assume for now that the videos he's making appear just as grainy on their side... so. Charades maybe.
Somehow this is worse than Garfle Warfle Snick. Somehow.

New recording: Pointing at himself, 2. Pointing at his ear. 3. Crossing his arms to make a giant X. 4. Miming writing words on a piece of paper and holding it out for the camera. 5. Another X with his arms.

Let's play that one back.]

... What do they look like? [ sorry, Sakura's at the cash register now so she can't see it but trying to be helpful here since she's the only one who'd recognize the others from her group now ]

[he's going to come over here to see how Keith's doing]

They can't hear us. You gotta draw pictures, or write stuff down. [if Keith's going to record again, Osomatsu wants to show Franciscus that his pokémon are okay. and say hi to everyone]

I wasn't sure if these videos were just as grainy on their side as they are for us.

[Gesturing at the unfamiliar bue haired kid on the screen holding that written message that is unreadable due to interference. But considering anything's better than more charades....]

Got a pen and paper?

[He'll trade for the camera if Oso wants to record a vlog while Keith writes some stuff down!]

[ He appears to be within the record store. ]

[So what do we have in terms of audio recording and playing devices?]

[cartesio]

[ There is nothing for audio recording specifically. Only cassette players and music cassettes. The video cameras do have a microphone installed, but how successful will that be...? It's doubtful. ]

[ OKAY but who of the people that Sakura would recognize would she be able to see ]

[cartesio]

[ This particular tape shows France, Jake and Luthier. ]

[clearities]

[ hm, that's interesting! good to know, at least ]

[cartesio]

[ Also hey, Sakura, while everyone else is occupied with the videos, you might notice that the cash register in the back of the room is going ka-ching. ]

[clearities]

[ .... what. let's just nyoom to the cash register. what do we got here? ]

[cartesio]

[ Just a lonely register that had a button mashed by a ghost. Maybe you want to mash a button back? ]

[after following the music to... this... Osomatsu just stares at the screen. oh, geez. is it time to talk to the ghosts again? he's pretty spooked seeing Franciscus there. other people, too]

[ Hey Oso, staring is good! It means you get to see an all-new video being put in after a little while.

Again, it is filmed from inside the record store. There is Oda, who is waving and giving a thumbs-up, and then there is Franciscus again - he is holding a paper with drawings.

Though it is a little hard to make out, there seems to be a birthday cake here? And then his two Pokémon friends, accompanied by a question mark. ]

[UHHHHHHH... hey, Oda!

Osomatsu gulps, still nervous. this isn't live, is it? though he will reach for the pokéballs and hold them up to the television. if Keith's waving didn't do anything, he's not sure this will, either]

[cartesio]

[ There's no response from the Franciscus on the screen and the video ends very shortly after. Doesn't seem to be live, no. ]

[hm. okay. Osomatsu is going to keep watching. anymore videos?]

...We might only be able to talk to them through drawings. [and recording things, too. he eyes what Keith is doing briefly]

[ Keith gets an answer video.

At the same time, the Beatles music that is still playing starts stuttering. And it stutters in a pretty distinctive pattern: .... . .-.. .-.. ---]
