Week 7: Investigation

The night comes and goes. Whether it's quiet is anyone's guess, but the sun rises as usual, though blocked partially by cloud.

The Sergeant's weekly endeavor destroy your reputation seems to have backfired. Another ghostly communication resulted in some emotional catharsis, for some of you. Perhaps there's the sense that things may be improving...

...But the threat to keep your loved ones here still hangs heavy in the air. It's not just your lives on the line, not anymore. That must be on everyone's minds. By sunset today, Cartesio's set to have a whole bunch of new residents, if the Sergeant has anything to say about it. On top of that, your deadline to receive a medal's almost up.

For that reason, despite the steps forward you've made this week, Friday's sunrise brings dread. What chances are there that all of you are still alive? Do you even want that, with the Sergeant's over your heads?

Whatever your feelings are, the town still beckons to you. Investigate, if you feel up to it.

[Time to head in here and see what there is to see! Anything immediately amiss?]

[The good thing about items that aren't bought often is that when one's bought, it tends to be noticeable, like now. First-aid kits are abundant here, and one's gone]

[robitussin]

[She’ll head over to the area it’s missing from, then, to examine it more closely.]

[cartesio]

[You'll find an advertisement, Natalie, telling you exactly what these kits have. It's everyday useful stuff, like bandages, antiseptic, gauze...nothing unusual about them]

[Is it just an entire kit missing, or are there any other items missing from any of the other kits?]

[cartesio]

[Just one kit!

If Natalie looks around, she may be able to notice there's something else that was taken, though. On the other side of the pharmacy, there's other kits -- kits of cleaning supplies. It sure is convenient when things come in bundles!]

[robitussin]

[She definitely notices, and she’s going to check that out, as well.]

[cartesio]

[Read the advertisement, Natalie. Things are listed here too. Ammonia, cotton rags, brushes, other similar cleaning implements. No bleach because this store won't give ammonia and bleach at once.

Looks like nothing here is meant to clean floors or anything like that, it's meant to clean smaller surfaces and/or objects.

That seems to be all you'll find here in the pharmacy area. You may want to check the bathroom before leaving, though!]

[And head there she will, after she checks all of that out!]

[It's a bathroom for the pharmacy employee, unisex and tiny, but looks like nobody cares if someone comes to use it. Natalie gets in with no problems at all.

An advantage of how small this bathroom is is that it won't take long for her to find stuff. Namely, cotton rags on the edge of the sink]

[robitussin]

[She’s glancing at the rags, and the sink as well, frowning.]

[cartesio]

[Don't get these rags too close to your face, Natalie. They're nasty.

Not only they stink of ammonia, there's also blood and soot on them.

Speaking of ammonia, right under the sink there's the container of ammonia that comes in the cleaning supplies kit!]

[robitussin]

[Gross, indeed.

Is there any blood in the sink itself, or just on the rags? And how full is the container?]

[cartesio]

[There's no blood at all on the sink, other than residue you may expect from, well, wet rags with blood being on it.

The container is approximately half-full. Pretty clear it has been used]

[robitussin]

[Hm! Bad.

Either way, she glances around the rest of the bathroom to make sure nothing else is out of the ordinary.]

[cartesio]

[Nothing that jumps to the eye. Looks like the mystery culprit didn't leave anything noteworthy here other than the rags and the ammonia container.
