Week 7: Investigation

The night comes and goes. Whether it's quiet is anyone's guess, but the sun rises as usual, though blocked partially by cloud.

The Sergeant's weekly endeavor destroy your reputation seems to have backfired. Another ghostly communication resulted in some emotional catharsis, for some of you. Perhaps there's the sense that things may be improving...

...But the threat to keep your loved ones here still hangs heavy in the air. It's not just your lives on the line, not anymore. That must be on everyone's minds. By sunset today, Cartesio's set to have a whole bunch of new residents, if the Sergeant has anything to say about it. On top of that, your deadline to receive a medal's almost up.

For that reason, despite the steps forward you've made this week, Friday's sunrise brings dread. What chances are there that all of you are still alive? Do you even want that, with the Sergeant's over your heads?

Whatever your feelings are, the town still beckons to you. Investigate, if you feel up to it.

[So one large bruise roughly consistent with hitting the ground really hard then?

Any other injuries to note? Broken bones etc.]

[ Consistent with hitting something very hard.

She doesn't appear to have broken bones, though it wouldn't be surprising, if some were cracked. That seems to be the extent of the injury report. ]

There anything else to note about Kinzie herself and the objects in her immediate periphery, or can he go check out the rest of the blast radius?]

[ A few more things about the objects in her vicinity.

First of all, there's several jagged rocks next to Kinzie. It's notable because unlike the rest of the rocks and earth, they are not burned. ]

[Interesting. Do these rocks at least look similar to the rocks in the area aside from not being burned?]

[cartesio]

[ Sort of. They look like they're the same kid of rocks, but sharper. ]

[Right. Time to add one of these to his inventory along with some of the shrapnel. Any signs of these rocks having been sharpened with a tool of some sort?]

[ They do not, no. ]

[marmoron]

[Hrm. Alright then. Anything else in the vicinity to take note of? Any footprints perhaps?]

[cartesio]

[ Footprints, no. However, he will notice some kind of print, in the soot and blood near Kinzie's body. Like someone was kneeling, next to her. ]

[Hrm. Time to check out that imprint. Is it preserved well enough to kinda guess roughly how big the person who left it was?]

[cartesio]

[ Actually, yeah! You can tell, it could match you. ]

[marmoron]

]Oh dang. Good thing that's not incriminating or anything.

Anything else to note about this imprint?]

[ Nope, nothing else you can tell. Want to move on to the other items around her body? Because there are definitely more. ]

[Nothing can possibly be worse than what he has already had to deal with, sooooooooo!!

Let's go check out the "party." What else is happening here?]

[ Let's start with what's closest. A first aid kit. Most of the supplies are untouched, but there's some gauze left in the soot and blood, and...also around some of the more grievous of Kinzie's injuries. ]

[Curious. We'll hang on to the first aid kit then. Is there any blood smeared inside the kit by chance?]

[cartesio]

[ On the gauze, yes. On the outsides of the kit, a little. Not inside. ]

[marmoron]

[Gotcha! He'll probably end up taking the kit for evidence tomorrow. Let's see what else is going on around poor Kinzie then!]

[ Alright, so here we have something big. There's this...device. Someone's fashioned a bunch of things together...or at least, they did, before it got thoroughly wrecked by whatever happened here.

Looks like you've found where the shrapnel came from, in other words. You can see what parts made up this device, too, starting with...a thoroughly fucked up metal pipe. Like, very fucked up.. ]

[....Oh. That sure is one fucked up pipe.

Does it have any traces of anything on it? He'll... reluctantly smell it if he has to. Since Kino isn't here.]

[cartesio]

[ There's the smell of fuel...but that should be obvious, given another part of the device is a pierced fuel tank.

It seems to have been ripped open by something rough and serrated. ]

[marmoron]

[Ok, that's pungent. Let's take a look at this fuel tank then. Roughly how big is the thing and how big is the tear? Are we talking like these pointy rocks might've done the trick or something bigger?]

[cartesio]

[ It's a decent size. Like, you could carry it, but it'd be a bit of a huff to do so. In any case, it looks like it, possibly. When whatever cut it did so, the canister kind of...well, it sort of looks a little like the pipe does, but smaller. ]

[So everything is in rough shap then. Hrm.

Any sign of a detonator or an accelerator around to set this contraption off?]
