Week 7 - Trial

Week 7: Trial

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Until now, the public had been so angry, waiting to see what the outsiders would do. Now they're calmer. Not indifferent, just waiting to see what will happen.

There are so few of you left. So few people, surrounded by a town that once hated you, and now don't know what to think. Will this trial change their opinions of you again?

Maybe that doesn't matter. You're here to solve a murder, after all.
"Today the victim is Kinzie Kensington. This may be the last chance any of you get the chance to earn a medal. Let's see if this culprit gets away with it successfully."

You receive your list of suspects. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. It has been a while since there was one culprit."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

I don't know. The knife is confusing to me.

Whoever was holding it was either already injured or they got blood on themselves from trying to help Kinzie. The latter option doesn't make sense because I don't get why they'd slash the fuel container after it'd already gone off.

Maybe they picked it up for another reason...?

[She frowns.]

You're right, though, it's weird.

mods!

Getting kinda conspiratorial, but...

[Time to take a look at this hunting knife again. Is the handle or blade damaged/charred in anyway?]
robitussin: (pic#12475593)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-11-17 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
...I think they probably cleaned it. I found rags in the pharmacy with blood and soot on them.
relieable: (at least be safe and use a spork)

[personal profile] relieable 2018-11-17 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
But why not clean the handle, too, if they were goin' through all that trouble?
robitussin: (pic#12531896)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-11-17 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
...I have no idea. They could have used the rags on their hands, not the knife, I guess.
marmoron: marmoron (judging)

[personal profile] marmoron 2018-11-17 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's a thoughtful look.]

So they brought the rags over, left the knife near the scene then doubled back to dump everything at the pharmacy?

[...That's weird.]

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-11-17 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[She pauses, taking that into account, then frowns.]

They could've just used the rags on their hands, too.
marmoron: prescar (Look bub)

[personal profile] marmoron 2018-11-17 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I think you're right about the knife. You said those rags smelt like ammonia, right? You wouldn't be using ammonia to be wiping your hands clean.
robitussin: (pic#12583123)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-11-17 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they did.

[Hmm...]

They had to have gone to the pharmacy earlier to get the first aid kit for her. Maybe they grabbed ammonia and rags then, cleaned the knife after she was dead, and then just brought the rags and ammonia back to the pharmacy.
relieable: (what a debbie-downer)

[personal profile] relieable 2018-11-17 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone's saying this might've been an accident. An' that could be possible. But you said the gas canister had a cut in it? Is it also possible that someone tried to make the bomb explode?

[this is confusing]
marmoron: (more resting bitchface)

[personal profile] marmoron 2018-11-17 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's getting a frown.]

That's what I'm starting to wonder. Thought it was a bit conspiratorial, but the whole thing could have been set up to make it look like an accident.

The first aid kit might've only been brought back as a cover up for going to the pharmacy.

[A beat.]

Pretty convoluted though.
robitussin: (pic#12475593)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-11-17 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You think they would have done all that just to throw us off...?
marmoron: marmoron (listening)

[personal profile] marmoron 2018-11-17 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Not all of it. Kinzie probably brought the explosive there to try and free her hostage. The culprit might've just taken advantage of the situation and tried to make it look like the bomb went off accidentally.

[A beat.]

It's like the Sergeant said. This is the last opportunity any of us have to win a medal.
robitussin: (pic#12475593)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-11-17 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, but... They could have done that without trying to make it look like they were attempting to save her. Unless they thought we'd, like, take pity on them when we found them out if we assumed it was an accident.

[A beat.]

Either way... You think it's worth checking everyone's hands for the smell of ammonia?

[personal profile] marmoron 2018-11-17 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a lot of things that aren't making sense to me, right now. Not saying I'm right about it.

[He's frowning, considering.]

It might be worth giving a shot.
robitussin: (pic#12583089)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-11-17 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods.]

It should probably be somebody who's not on the list.
