Final Investigation

It's Friday. It's the last day marked in your calendar. Presumably, the few without medals will leave at some point today, and the rest...you're not sure what'll happen to you, but it'll be what the Sergeant wants.

How to defy him when you have so little time left?

Whatever plan you had today, it's guaranteed it won't go like expected. Early in the morning, the ground rumble slightly, and something pops in the sky. Fireworks! One after another, blasts from firework spread through the sky. Many of the residents of Cartesio come to the street, gathering and making all the noise they can.

It's a very radical change of behavior, compared to the once peaceful demeanor they had, and then the hostile behavior showed towards the visitors, but now they're making hubbub and causing disorder. Everyone does it spontaneously, and nobody's approaching the motel at all.

At least none of the townspeople.

Not long after that started, you may hear the noise of horns and whistles from vehicles, right outside the motel. Go take a look?

[ Those monitors definitely stand out. However, if Osomatsu wants to peak into one of the rooms they're approaching, he'll find something stranger still. ]

[yeah, that sounds like a terrific idea! as they get closer, he'll poke his head in the room. what are we looking at here?]

[ In contrast to the pristine corridors, this room is utterly wrecked. It doesn't look like a fight or anything, like in your past investigations. No, it just looks eroded by time. It's littered with dust, the furniture--chairs, coffee tables, a general mingling room--shows natural wear and tear... It's overall a mess. ]

[um. that's weird]

It's like it's been untouched in ages. [he almost doesn't know if he should disturb it. but in he goes. are there any cabinets or drawers to open?]

[cartesio]

[ A cabinet or two! He'll find...absolutely nothing but dust. This place really hasn't been touched in awhile. ]

[relieable]

[that's too bad. Osomatsu was hoping for more papers. or treasure. treasure would have been preferred.

on his way out, he'll glance around one more time to make sure he hasn't missed anything]

[cartesio]

[ There's definitely something of interest: another one of those monitors.

What's notable? This one's actually broadcasting...though it appears to be the same room you're in now, without you in it. ]

[relieable]

[ah, right. the monitor. he doesn't notice it at first. but he looks at it carefully now that he's seen it. is this... the same room? it can't be, right? because he's not there.

he keeps his eyes on the monitor and moves back, then pushes against a piece of furniture to see if it moves on the screen]

[cartesio]

[ It does not. The feed crackles a little, but it doesn't seem to be caused by Osomatsu's movement. Just an old feed of a ruinous room. ]

[relieable]

[HMMM... weird. he walks up to the monitor again. is there any way to change the channel?]

[cartesio]

[ None. There's no controls on it, no dials or knobs. ]

[relieable]

[a frown! Osomatsu stares at the monitor a bit longer, as though he's waiting for it to change. if it doesn't he'll head out to look back in the hallway for another room]

[cartesio]

[ No matter how long Osomatsu stares, the monitor doesn't change, aside from a few skips and flickers.

The room that seems to have the most interest is that laboratory Sakura found. ]
