May 25th - Final Day

Final Investigation
It's Friday. It's the last day marked in your calendar. Presumably, the few without medals will leave at some point today, and the rest...you're not sure what'll happen to you, but it'll be what the Sergeant wants.
How to defy him when you have so little time left?
Whatever plan you had today, it's guaranteed it won't go like expected. Early in the morning, the ground rumble slightly, and something pops in the sky. Fireworks! One after another, blasts from firework spread through the sky. Many of the residents of Cartesio come to the street, gathering and making all the noise they can.
It's a very radical change of behavior, compared to the once peaceful demeanor they had, and then the hostile behavior showed towards the visitors, but now they're making hubbub and causing disorder. Everyone does it spontaneously, and nobody's approaching the motel at all.
At least none of the townspeople.
Not long after that started, you may hear the noise of horns and whistles from vehicles, right outside the motel. Go take a look?

...the only thing that seems to be of use or interest is an app to send messages. Opening it makes it clear Sarge sent a message not too long ago. Want to look at the past messages?]

Sergei? I don’t recognize the surroundings. Some places in the building seem to be in disrepair, someone should get that fixed. I checked the orders I have, no problem there, but I’d like to know why we’re here instead of back home. Please advice
[Around a day later]
Sergei, what’s this town? The information I gathered says it’s called Cartesio, but I’m not familiar with it. I have a feeling we’re not in our world anymore. Are we really going to try to destroy this world? I’m trying hard to remember, but I think we weren’t even done in our world.

It has been several months and you still haven’t replied. I made a copy of the town, I configured its people based on the lives I saw in Cartesio. Please check it and tell me if it’s a fitting testing environment.
[And then another month later]
I brought twenty-two minds. I made some good choices here. It’d be great if you could check them and tell me if these choices are correct, I need your input to know if I should keep bringing minds like these ones.
I await your response. Reply as soon as possible, I’m getting annoyed.

Alright, what else have we got?]

Everything’s going smoothly, and not thanks to you. I’m bringing thirty for the first round. Give me your opinion.
[Mere hours afterwards:]
Sergei, please, say something.
[And now it's April. Around the end of the first week]
They’re not killing each other. I tried a kinder approach and it’s not working. I’ll try to return to the usual shouting and stuff, but this feels more natural. Explain. Please. Sergei, I’m kind of lost right now.

Continuing!]

It has started. Progress is going much better than I expected, even if it has been only two weeks. You’d like it, Sergei. Please, read the data.
---
Some of them are coming to talk. It’s harder for me to be dismissive when we’re talking alone. Please advice.
---
The deaths are piling up, and a few have received medals. Please check the current list. I for one believe we can use the ones with medals so far.

Sergei!

It’s May now, I’m going to apply more pressure in general. Looking forward to seeing which minds will yield.
---
Sergei! Tell me you guys didn’t leave me to do this by myself. And why has nobody fixed the building yet? It’s even worse than it was before!
---
Fine. Even without your input, I’m going to carry this to completion. Just say a word and I’ll adjust the procedures, but until then, I’ll keep going.

You know, even if you read this one day, it’ll be too late to change anything. The first group's exercise is almost complete, it has been a tremendous success. The societal response isn’t as strong as expected, I’ll set up things to be more merciless towards the town next time.

Something happened to you. I just know it. I don’t see why else you haven’t been in contact for all these months.
I hope you’re okay. You’re a better version of myself, I know you can surpass everything. I just wish I knew for sure there are no problems on your part, wherever you are. I have been shouting to the void for so long, no sign of anyone out there.
In the meanwhile, I’ll continue with my established duties. Orders are orders. Forever and ever.
[And finally, just a few hours ago]
I didn’t realize I needed your input so much, Sergei. At the risk of sounding childish, I miss you.
Reply whenever you can.
[You have reached the end of the line, Kino. You're done]
