WEEK 2: April 8th - April 12th

Second Week

Seven days have passed. Quite peaceful days, almost too peaceful. The town has welcomed you, excited to see tourists for the first time in many, many, many years. Some may have liked the peace, others may have been annoyed by it, but it was undeniable Cartesio seemed like such a nice and safe place it was hard to believe you had been told to kill each other.

But the threat is still up in the air. What's more: how much patience does the Sergeant have left?

Every time you take a look into the Lodge, you see the Sergeant. Lately he's looking more and more annoyed. Even though you can't see his face, you can feel he's getting frustrated. How long will it be before he lashes out and does something about these peaceful days?

Nobody in the town could suspect the harrowing times that'd befall Cartesio.

When you wake up on Sunday, you'll find new maps in the map rack and brochures on the table, showing places you hadn't noticed in the town before. Enjoy!

Oh, that? Yeah, there was a short circuit, in some of the electricity underground? What else do you want to know about it?

[marmoron]

[There's a pause; like he's actually considering how best to phrase this instead of rushing in head long with alarming sounding phrases.]

That wasn't an accident, correct?

[cartesio]

[ She looks at him in confusion. ]

Where'd you get that idea? Of course it was an accident.

[marmoron]

[....right, what else was to be expected there.]

Never mind. I must've misunderstood. [Token gesture of being placating or whatever.] Do fires happen often in Cartesio?

[cartesio]

Every so often. Usually, it's in the summer with the heat, or if we get a bad lightning strike. The occasional accident, someone left their stove on too long, things like that.

[ Just a lot of accidents. ]

[marmoron]

[Quiet for a moment.]

Cartesio's been around since.. '75, right?

[Or at least that's the oldest of the police records he remembers seeing anyway.]

And there hasn't been a single arsonist. Guess life in a small town really is pretty different.

[cartesio]

Oh, much longer! '19, I think's when it was founded. The brigade was started in 1920, and the firehouse back in '70.

In all that time... Nope, not a single arson.

[marmoron]

[Of course there haven't bene any. At first this kind of gross distortion of the facts had been aggravating (sorry tavern guy), but he's expecting it now -- better equipped to deal with the fact that they're probably all being brainwashed to high hell and back.]

Gotcha. Have the military been in Cartesio since the 20s too or...?

[Just to check the consistency of this story here.]

[cartesio]

Military? Are you...talkin' about that Sergeant guy? Oh no, he's uh... I think he came here recently?

[marmoron]

Any idea what he wants?

[Just to be thorough here. Keith isn't expecting to have a real EUREKA moment. though it's nice to dream...]

He seems kind of weird to me.

[cartesio]

[ After a moment, the firefighter shakes his head. ]

Can't really get a handle on a guy if he's never around.

[marmoron]

[You talk to one and it's like you've talked to all of them as far as information is concerned, huh...]

Leaves a bit of a strong impression when he is around though.

[Shadows. Face. You know the drill. But forget it, he can see this is going nowhere.]

Anyway -- thank you. For all the hard work you guys do.

[cartesio]

[ The strange, floundering air to the conversation evaporates immediately, as the man lights up. ]
