Second Week

Seven days have passed. Quite peaceful days, almost too peaceful. The town has welcomed you, excited to see tourists for the first time in many, many, many years. Some may have liked the peace, others may have been annoyed by it, but it was undeniable Cartesio seemed like such a nice and safe place it was hard to believe you had been told to kill each other.

But the threat is still up in the air. What's more: how much patience does the Sergeant have left?

Every time you take a look into the Lodge, you see the Sergeant. Lately he's looking more and more annoyed. Even though you can't see his face, you can feel he's getting frustrated. How long will it be before he lashes out and does something about these peaceful days?

Nobody in the town could suspect the harrowing times that'd befall Cartesio.

When you wake up on Sunday, you'll find new maps in the map rack and brochures on the table, showing places you hadn't noticed in the town before. Enjoy!

I guess I can try. [ Because she is absolutely going to see if she can find any of the residents -- specifically any firefighters to see if she can go ahead and ask a question, although Nine can totally follow her. ] Um, excuse me...!

[ You go, kid. He'll be looming behind to make sure nothing happens. ]

[ A firefighter she finds! She waves down a young man, who seems perfectly happy to stop and chat with her. ]

Do ya need anything, lil miss?

[clearities]

Yes! I was wondering... how long it took for you guys to set this all up?

[cartesio]

Oh, all this? Just...about a day, a little less. We had lots of folks pitchin' in.

[clearities]

Really? Um... how long have you guys been doing this?

[cartesio]

Well... Awhile, but this year's a bit more elaborate than the last. Fifty year anniversary for the station's important, you know?

[clearities]

Fifty years really is a lot. I think it's amazing if you can keep a fire station up for that long...! Um, are fires really frequent here? [ She's got to ask, since she only knows about the one. ] I did see what happened with the last fire, but... I wanted to know a little more about the fire station.

[cartesio]

Fires happen, but from weather or accidents, stuff like that. We respond, fast as we can, in any case.

[clearities]

[ "As fast as we can", huh... ] When a fire happens, do you guys get a phone call about it from the other people in the town? [ Maybe that'll help her understand the picture a little more. ]

[cartesio]

[ A nod. ]

Exactly, lil missy.

[clearities]

Um... did someone call in for the fire on March 30th, too?

[cartesio]

Oh, that one? Naw, that one... Well, it was big enough that we noticed it ourselves.

[clearities]

I see... thank you very much!
