Second Week

Seven days have passed. Quite peaceful days, almost too peaceful. The town has welcomed you, excited to see tourists for the first time in many, many, many years. Some may have liked the peace, others may have been annoyed by it, but it was undeniable Cartesio seemed like such a nice and safe place it was hard to believe you had been told to kill each other.

But the threat is still up in the air. What's more: how much patience does the Sergeant have left?

Every time you take a look into the Lodge, you see the Sergeant. Lately he's looking more and more annoyed. Even though you can't see his face, you can feel he's getting frustrated. How long will it be before he lashes out and does something about these peaceful days?

Nobody in the town could suspect the harrowing times that'd befall Cartesio.

When you wake up on Sunday, you'll find new maps in the map rack and brochures on the table, showing places you hadn't noticed in the town before. Enjoy!

[ Too bad everything is so thoroughly burned that determining the origin is out of the picture. Alas, Dabi is simply a villain with considerable fire quirk experience and not an actual fire investigaor. Hmm though, the stark cutoff by the doorway is interesting. Possible the door was just closed and kept the fire contained, but he can't help but wonder...

Sure, why not. Going to kneel down and activate his quirk in his left hand to lazily lob a small ember of fire outside the doorway. Mainly he's looking to see if the fire is instantly extinguished or whether it'll die in a few seconds without any real kindling like he would expect. For science and vandalism! ]

[cartesio]

[The ember dies after a few seconds, yep. No kindling left to burn! Unless the fire is constantly fed, it's not going to stay]

[amburere]

[ Good to know there's not some weird magic quirk stuff going on. That settled, he's gonna take one more look at the steel door just to make sure there's no hidden switches, knobs, or anything of the sort. ]

[cartesio]

[The steel door doesn't seem to have anything in it like hidden switches. However, it seems it doesn't fit well with the floor. It works more like a shutter!

Maybe, if you have enough strength, you could lift it up]

If you need muscle in the League of villains they're honestly running pretty low on it, at least in the traditional sense. Dabi's kinda lanky and lean more than muscular, but he's not a complete stick like some other people. So sure he can give this a go and try to lift up the shutter.

If it requires more than average stregnth that's fine, he has other options. They may or may not involve fire. ]

[Lift! Lift, Dabi, like your life depends on it!

Well that sure could have gone better. While the door does go up enough for someone to pass underneath it, it keeps pushing down, as if it wants to connect with the floor again. Would you want to risk that heavy door falling on you?

Maybe you should think alternative ways to deal with this]

[ Yeah he figured. S'all good cause while he hasn't been able to create flames as freely as hes used to, they're still incredibly hot. Did you know it takes heat of roughly 1400-1800°F to cremate a body? That's all stuff he can do before breakfast, cause blue flames sit comfortably within the 2600-3000°F range. Course he hasn't exactly tried to gauge himself with a thermometer here, but his flames are still that same haunting blue.

So how well is this steel shutter holding up if he just aims two moderately sized streams of fire from his palms at the bottom where the connection is flimsy for a while. ]

[That works better. The steel shines brightly, heated by the fire, until that section starts falling apart. The parts of wall right around that area also crumble, charred and weakened by the streams of fire.

It should be easy enough to break the bottom of the door and pass through! You're able to withstand the molten steel, right, Dabi?]

[amburere]

[ There is no problem Dabi can't solve with just a bit of fire.

...to some extent he is, because MHA makes total sense. He definitely can't just roll around in it, but he can at the least kick one of his boots to make the opening big enough to get through. His clothes have a fire retardant property of some sort (at least to his own fire) considering he's able to set various parts of his body aflame and not ruin his clothes. But he'll wait just a bit for it to cool because his staples definitely aren't fire proof and he'd rather not replace a ton of 'em.

Once it's safe enough, he'll make his through the bottom of the door!. Keeping one hand lit just in case, plus it makes for a handy light if it's dark. ]

[Good decision with the lit hand, it's indeed somewhat dark in here.

Looks like this is some sort of office. The manager's office, perhaps? It's ransacked as well, and with the same layer of dust the rest of the building has, but there's no scorched floor or marks of fire anywhere. Compared to the room right outside, this office is pristine.

Behind a spot where a safe used to be, there's a small nook. Inside it, there's a tiny green light flashing]

[amburere]

[ Huh.

Might as well investigate the most obvious thing of course. Let's look closer at the flashing green light in the nook. If he needs to, he'll ignite a flame in his other hand to see better. Who needs a flashlight. ]

[cartesio]

[There's a device inside the nook, and from the looks of that light, it's still active. Wires emerge from it, snaking into the wall. A very small label on it makes clear what it is:

SECURITY SYSTEM

What's more, there currently is a disc inside. It probably has been recording through the cameras since who knows how long ago]

[ Oh is he on camera? Sweet! ...Dabi wears a lot of grins, but he'll actually turn and look up at wherever the cameras look to be and flash a genuine smile. It's definitely creepy.

But this system, what to do, what to do. Despite everything he's done so far, his answer is not in fact more fire. In fact, he actually extinguishes the flame in his left hand to see if he can't pull out the device a bit without disturbing the wires too much. Does it have any buttons or dials? Or is it just the disc and nothing else? ]

[cartesio]

[Anyone who watches this video will get cursed because of that smile. Oh joyful day.

There indeed is a button on the top part of the device]

[amburere]

[ It really is.

Pressing that button is really tempting. There doesn't seem to be another option besides trying to cauterize the wires to the system, but that'll likely trigger a reaction in itself. Which means there really only is one choice here, isn't there.

First, though. Dabi's going to gingerly lay the device down and take another pan of the room just to check that there's nothing else here to investigate. ]

[cartesio]

[The rest of the room is rather disorganized. There once was a phone on the desk, now lying on the floor broken in half. The only window has a very large hole on it, curiously enough there's no glass on the inside of the office. Steps litter the place, the carpet is completely ruined.

Yet there doesn't seem to be anything else of use]

[amburere]

[ Two points of escape is good, considering he might need them both very shortly. Room check complete, let's press that button. ]

[cartesio]

[The device beeps, the light going off, before the disc slides out of there. You have obtained a security recording from Cartesio Electronics.

You'll do well to hold onto that for a while.
