WEEK 2: April 8th - April 12th

Second Week
Seven days have passed. Quite peaceful days, almost too peaceful. The town has welcomed you, excited to see tourists for the first time in many, many, many years. Some may have liked the peace, others may have been annoyed by it, but it was undeniable Cartesio seemed like such a nice and safe place it was hard to believe you had been told to kill each other.

But the threat is still up in the air. What's more: how much patience does the Sergeant have left?

Every time you take a look into the Lodge, you see the Sergeant. Lately he's looking more and more annoyed. Even though you can't see his face, you can feel he's getting frustrated. How long will it be before he lashes out and does something about these peaceful days?

Nobody in the town could suspect the harrowing times that'd befall Cartesio.

When you wake up on Sunday, you'll find new maps in the map rack and brochures on the table, showing places you hadn't noticed in the town before. Enjoy!

[Anyone expecting a pleasant walk in the park in the early hours of the morning receives a lovely surprise when a bird drops dead out of the sky and plummets unpleasantly to the ground.

An arrow sticks out of the bird's chest. Of course it does.

"Feel free" might be pushing it, given who she is as a person, but you are certainly able to find Clarisse shooting birds out of the sky from right nearby a cluster of trees, or you can wait until she comes over to collect her arrows.

At a more reasonable hour in the AM, Clarisse gets breakfast in the diner. Usually she just takes her food and leaves, lest she run the risk of having to interact with a person, but today she sits at a table and...g...reets? greets??? anyone foolish enough to come close.
]

You catch the commotion this morning? And after Sarge carted that guy out last night, too.

[mmm it's never good when she's looking this fucking smug about things, is it. also what the fuck these events happened in the early AM following the previous late night, clarisse when do you SLEEP]

[Clarisse, for once you have Jughead's attention for reasons that aren't based in antagonizing you. He sits down opposite her and cracks out that notebook.]

What happened?
snideper: (and the mother we share)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-10 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You at least heard about the detective disappearing already, yeah? [how up to speed does she have to catch you—and then, with incredulous amusement:] Are you taking notes?

[writing things down?? like a nerd?????]
burgerprince: (:actually:)

[personal profile] burgerprince 2018-10-10 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[He gives a nod to the first question. The second question speaks for itself as he clicks a pen, readying himself.]

I'm a writer, it's kind of what I do. Is there a problem?

[He doesn't actually care how she feels about it, and it's clear in how he asks the question.]
snideper: (come in misery where you can seem)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-10 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah! Whatever. [She thinks it's funny in the way a jock from a bad high school comedy movie thinks the concept of reading books is funny... If she can't successfully make fun of him for it, though, it's not worth pursuing, especially when there's gossip to be had.]

Bunch of police came by the motel earlier. Someone got himself caught.
burgerprince: (:snark:)

[personal profile] burgerprince 2018-10-10 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
What time?

[He's already on the note taking.]

And that someone...

[Look, you don't even have to be a detective to work it out. Clarisse just reveling in it is enough, but combined with the talk at the meeting...]

Keith?
snideper: (and i will cover you until you go)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-10 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods eagerly at that second question.]

You know it. And—ugh, I don't know, early? It looked like he just rolled out of bed.

[there is absolutely nothing about this she doesn't find funny]
burgerprince: (:fuck:)

[personal profile] burgerprince 2018-10-10 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's taking all of this down, but-]

You are way too happy about this.

[personal profile] linearcrash 2018-10-10 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[ A bird lands pretty close to him. ]

Huh? What the hell?

[ It's almost like being around Trey but Trey would have given a heads up. Nine picks up the arrow to investigate. Oh, that looks familiar. ]
snideper: (the way is long)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-10 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Confirming his concerns comes Clarisse, bow in hand. Her quiver looks light on arrows; there are probably other dead birds elsewhere around here...]

Oh, it's you. [ugh.] Give me my arrow.

[ Hey bb hey. He grins because his morning is already looking brighter. ]

Hey, did you do that with only one shot?

[ Looking at the size of the bird and still holding the arrow. He does notice the quiver seeming lighter, but he didn't see any other arrows flying over head. ]
snideper: ('cause if i told the truth)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-10 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[a scoff of both disgust and incredulity]

Yeah, obviously. Give me my arrow.

That's pretty cool.

[ Want more reasons for compliments from him. He'll wave her to come closer to collect the arrow. ]

christ

she still stays out of immediate arm's length but comes close enough that he can place the arrow into her hand when she holds it out.

I'm not gonna say it again.

[ Holy shit.

Several layers of 'holy shit' actually because for one the sight of the dead bird just flopping down is severely upsetting but on the other hand, that sure is some marksmanship. And then back to the first hand, that poor bird. ]

... aren't there any other targets you could use?
snideper: (come in misery where you can seem)

cw mild animal gore........

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-11 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing else moves but the people.

[When she walks over, she yanks the arrow out of the bird corpse without much pretense or care for what happens to the bird guts in the process. Gross.]
integratedsoul: (so i just stay out of the way)

[personal profile] integratedsoul 2018-10-11 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[ Yeah, Cian is... going pretty pale at this. This is super-duper violent for her standards and she is trying very hard to not let her discomfort show too much. ]

Maybe they sell balloons somewhere in town?
snideper: (and i will cover you until you go)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-11 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
[To her credit, the movement of Clarisse wiping the blood off on her skirt before she drops the arrow back in her quiver comes naturally to her. For once, she doesn't make an active effort to upset the people around her. It just is what she's like!!! Yaaaay...]

Sell what?

[i had to google the history of balloons for this]
integratedsoul: (with this rattling ribcage)

[personal profile] integratedsoul 2018-10-12 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh.

[ Okay, give her a second to reason out how to describe this... ]

Floating plastic bubbles...?

[Her arrow now.]

In a sense. I'm going to examine it somewhere that has fewer distractions.
snideper: (the way is long)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-11 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. It's not going to be a very good reference anymore when you've jostled it all like that. That's one of the things that makes the difference between a clean shot and an amateur frame job.
carbide: (B01F. A glorious journey's start)

[personal profile] carbide 2018-10-11 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I hadn't thought of anything like that. I just wanted to see whether any part of it was useful.

[That, and run off with one of Clarisse's arrows.]
snideper: (come in misery where you can seem)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-11 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Sure.

[she doesn't believe her at all]

There are some more dead birds around the place if you hate the diner's breakfast so much.
