WEEK 2: April 8th - April 12th

Second Week

Seven days have passed. Quite peaceful days, almost too peaceful. The town has welcomed you, excited to see tourists for the first time in many, many, many years. Some may have liked the peace, others may have been annoyed by it, but it was undeniable Cartesio seemed like such a nice and safe place it was hard to believe you had been told to kill each other.

But the threat is still up in the air. What's more: how much patience does the Sergeant have left?

Every time you take a look into the Lodge, you see the Sergeant. Lately he's looking more and more annoyed. Even though you can't see his face, you can feel he's getting frustrated. How long will it be before he lashes out and does something about these peaceful days?

Nobody in the town could suspect the harrowing times that'd befall Cartesio.

When you wake up on Sunday, you'll find new maps in the map rack and brochures on the table, showing places you hadn't noticed in the town before. Enjoy!

Anyway this chicken hasn't ever felt threatened in its life, so it is perfectly fine with getting pets.]

Hee, yeah. I don't really get to get up close n' personal with 'em when I'm working.

[She says some other things, but since it's all cooing baby talk toward the chicken and how cute it is, it's not really worth notating here.]

You would probably like the country where everyone gets a pet, then.

[So does Millium! And since she has essentially unlimited free food already, her priorities are CUTE THINGS.]

Aaaa~ yeah, I'd love that!! Gramps won't let me have one, 'cause I'm out on missions too often to take care of it and he's way too busy to help out...

In that country, everyone gets to pick an animal to take care of as a pet when they turn ten. It was supposed to encourage empathy and things like that.

[Still, there's another mild smile. At least someone's having fun here.]

Any kind of animal?

[Millium goes a little wide-eyed at the idea... someone please stop her.]

Anything from an approved list, but I saw many people with all kinds of animals while I stayed there.

That's where I got this chicken, I think.

[Wait, so this is a chicken from Kino's world? Then that means...]

Oh, so did Sarge give you Yakitori back for yesterday?

I guess so...

[Strange as it may be.]

I wouldn't have thought it was possible.

Huh? Why not? I mean, he brought all of us here. Don't see why he couldn't bring our things n' our pets, too.

Well...

That's because I ate it. I had it for dinner after I left the country.

[And yet here it is, enjoying those pets.]

I can't keep pets while I travel...

[That's just the way of things.]

But even if I killed her here, there's no point, since there's already food. It isn't like I have to kill her to survive, or anything like that.

You could have given her up for adoption...!

[Millium's logic when it comes to life or death situations is. Not excellent. This will only be further proven over the weekend.

She makes a little sad noise before resuming her previous position, but she still looks ready to dive and cover this chicken at a moment's notice.]

Well, I did want to eat something besides portable rations on the road...

[Just gonna. Own up to that one.]

I don't like killing pointlessly. But my life has to take priorities over others.

[Sorry Yakitori, good thing you can't understand this conversation.]

[Sigh! She strokes Yakitori lovingly.]

It's okay, Yakitori. You'll be safe this time... mommy will protect you...

[Has she already adopted this chicken as her own? Dear lord.]

Are you planning to adopt it?

[She hadn't actually considered this, but:]

If you won't love her, someone has to.

[A pause for thought.]

Dunno what I'll do with her once I get home. Maybe I can shove her off on Rean?

[Meanwhile, in Erebonia, Rean feels a sense of dread and doesn't know why.]

If that's the case, you won't mind feeding her from now on.

[Free Kino of this duty.]

Yeah, I can take that over.

So long as you promise not to eat her while I'm not looking!

I can write instructions later. And as long as there's other free food, I don't have any reason to kill it.

[No promises otherwise, though. And Kino won't speak for the others (Clarisse) either.]

[This chicken is so getting renamed the minute someone tells her what that means. In the meantime, it's getting a hug.]
