Week 2: Investigation

The Sergeant's deadline is tonight. An offer to get in contact with people you know, yet also a threat. Given how fed up he was, it's unlikely he's joking about the kind of cruelty he's willing to go through for the sake of getting what he wants.

That's why it may not be so surprising that, early in Friday morning, there's this air of tension, despite the bright sun in the sky. It doesn't help that a firetruck and a couple patrolcars race through the streets, passing in front of the motel and going west. The reason why is clear after a single glance:

There's a thick column of black smoke emanating from somewhere inside the Junkyard.

[LETS INVESTIGATE that high stack of junk cars Hawks noticed earlier, shall we?]

[ Investigate away! The pile's several feet away from the burning car. Where would you like to start examining, because there's a few points of interest here, both around and on the pile. ]

[Let's start from the top, what's on the pile?]

[cartesio]

[ On the very top of the pile, there's a few things of note. First and foremost, there's a few cans of motor oil, in the trunk of the top car. ]

[Duly noted! Hawks will collect the cans and then search around the trunk some more, unless there's a noticeable reason he shouldn't touch?

[cartesio]

[ He might want to be a little careful! Because around the pile, there's a very thick, very visible circle of motor oil. That's probably important. ]

[He's here already so he'll examine the body of our dear Moloch. What are the preliminary findings here looking at him?]

[ Well, he's laid out in the car. Would you like to pull him out to get a good look at him? ]

[pursuitofdeath]

[Certainly! Time to gently lay out our victim on the solid ground.


...much better!]

[ A nice dirt bath, to go with whatever's damp on his clothes that you definitely noticed, while pulling him out. A dark liquid is smeared on his clothes. ]

[...dark, huh. He has an idea but... if he sniffs it, is there a familiar scent that goes with it?]

[ well, oda’s here with his detective partner NOT BOYFRIEND. ]

You think they burned him to try to hide it?

[pursuitofdeath]

If we hadn’t gotten into the car in time, it could have destroyed a lot of evidence. They may have wanted to hide the fact that it came from one of us, and put suspicion on the upset townsfolk.

[doublelammy]

[Anything on the ground around the car of note?]

[cartesio]

[ Around the car doesn't seem to bring much...unless you're also counting smell? Is that burnt motor oil? ]

[doublelammy]

[Millium wrinkles her nose. That is, unfortunately, a smell she would know. Hooray for burning tanks...]

Gross.

[Is there any sign of where that smell's coming from?]

[cartesio]

[ Honestly? It seems to be coming from the car itself. ]

[doublelammy]

[Inside or outside?]

[So let's take a look at this car. Any obvious signs of why it was on fire?]

[cartesio]

[ Much like around the car, there's a strong smell of something burnt. Ever smelled motor oil, Olympia? ]

[carbide]

[She sure has. (Wait, what?) That's not necessarily a surprise... unless she should see some oil where it shouldn't be?]

[cartesio]

[ It might be a little hard, as the whole car was pretty on fire...but sure enough, if she looks hard enough, some motor oil drips down the side. ]

[Following her nose to find this is way less exciting than Froot Loops.

Anything else here, or is that about it?]
