Week 2: Trial

The day still is April 13th. It's now the afternoon

Just like he said he would, the Sergeant went to everyone and told them to go to the courthouse. It wasn't difficult to find -- three of the tourists already knew where it was. What nobody, not even these three thought, was that the courtroom would be so much populated this time.

All of the visitors went into the only trial room in the courthouse. In the center there were several podiums, formed into a circle. Each podium had a small notepad and a pen, and a slot on the top part of its surface, presumably to insert your vote in it. Each podium has a small placard showing who it belongs to -- except for Moloch von Zinzer's podium. That one is draped with black velvet.

The tribunes at the sides of the courtroom are higher than where your podiums are. During the trial Sakura, Wayne and Millium attended those tribunes had been empty, but this time they're not. Quite a lot of the townspeople are sitting there, talking with each other and observing all of the tourists with different expressions. Confusion, disdain, shock, all kinds of emotions, all united by the feeling of morbid curiosity. What did the tourists do? What will happen? That's what they're wondering.

And above all of them, on the judge's seat...the Sergeant. None of the townspeople's paying attention to him, he's sitting on his chair and twirling the gavel in his hand. He still is very pleased a murder happened, and once it's time to start, he says:

"We have gathered today for the trial to find the culprit for the death of Moloch von Zinzer. It's your task to discuss, find the truth of this murder and bring it to light. For the sake of not letting you bunch run in circles, I have decided to lend you a hand and give you the five most likely suspects -- the culprit being one of them"

And indeed, five small photos appear on your podium.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. With no further ado, I wish you good luck!"

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to you now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

[Says the little girl who everyone's been thinking that about since day one.]

Who— who cares if he says he did it?! We should just vote for Dabi! Dabi's a villain, isn't he?! Who's really more dangerous here?!

[This is desperation, pure and simple. She was helpless before, but Crow was already dying. Right now, Nine is here, Nine is alive. Even if it's useless, she can still try to do something.]

[ This outburst actually makes Cian release Millium fully. She understands the despair, so she won't say anything... but she's also super not down with voting Dabi. ]

[Sorry, Cian. Millium's only interaction with him has been him burning up one of her sharks, and right now? Nine means more, that's all there is to it.

The ends justifiy the means. That's how she's always been raised. And if it pushes away Cian... is that something she can live with?

Right now, she thinks it is.]

Even if that we voted for this Dabi guy, it wouldn't help anything. Not with everything else that moron is saying.

[He doesn't want to have this conversation.]

[Yeah, she knows.]

No one asked to listen to your whining either. [ Got no problems with putting that out there. ]

Nice to see you're as selfish as you are loud. You can't just scream expecting to get what you want.

[He's absolutely right. It is selfish, horribly so.

But it really isn't much different now than it was with Crow, was it? Sure, Crow shot Gramps. At the time, they'd thought he killed him. And yet, even as an Ironblood, she'd been totally willing to just bring him back home, too.

Because she liked him more, at the end of the day. And she likes Nine way more than she likes Dabi.

But at the end of the day, they couldn't, then. She can't now, either.

There's no point in arguing against what Dabi has to say, because hell, even she knows every single word he just said was right. So instead, she just goes silent.]

Would that make us any better? Voting for Dabi because he's a villain even if he hasn't really done anything here yet?

[Bolin has a point, and she knows it.]

As hard as it is to believe Nine did this [loveable dumbass], that doesn't change that Dabi wasn't the one who did a crime here. He's an asshole and has done bad things before, but if you can't ignore actual evidence just because you like someone else more.

[Hawks doesn't like how any of this is going either, but he can't just ignore the rules. Proof of a crime means that person is the one punished.]

[Both Hawks and Bolin are right, and Millium knows it. And as such, she quiets down pretty damn fast.]

I... I know, but...

[The podium is going to have to hold her up now, because she's having a hell of a time doing it herself.]

I just don't... not again...

[tuffguy]

[ He's looking at Millium with such sadness here

he moves away from her podium to hug her ]

[She has nothing to say, here. Instead, she just hugs back and cries.

Cries, like she couldn't for Crow. She didn't understand, then, quite the hole he would leave – in her heart, in everyone's. She didn't understand how much they'd all meant to her, then.

She understands now, and she wishes she didn't.]

[ he gives great hugs

so he's hugging her tight and patting her back, quietly telling her to just let it all out ]

He grips his podium tighter. Thankfully the others have said enough that he doesn't need to repeat that--and honestly he doesn't know if he could. But, he does say something, even if he sounds like he hates it. ]

Did you hear what Nine said? About what he'd intended?

[ That conversation between Dazai's friend and Nine, that is. ]

Nothing's stopping him from doing it again, if we just let him go free.

[doublelammy]

[She's got nothing to add here that she didn't already say to Hawks.]

And then what?

[There's no emotion whatsoever in Olympia's voice.]
