The peaceful times are over. Moloch von Zinzer was murdered, and Nine was sentenced as his murderer. Everyone in Cartesio knows that.
Although life goes on, it seems the town of Cartesio isn't going to forget the tourists' transgressions. Not only they commited larceny in the cinema, they also murdered and executed in their town! It's no surprise their hospitality towards the visitors has cooled down considerably.
Not only they're maintaining a tense cordiality with them, they also have started talking behind the visitors' backs. All kinds of rumors are starting to sprout, yet nobody seems to be willing to say it to the tourists' faces. Talking directly to most passerby makes them distrustful, and nobody seems to want to be in close quarters alone with them.
It's only matter of time before the relationship between tourists and Cartesio starts degrading even further.
In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and
the maps have been updated once again.

While she's not feeling the greatest herself, she doesn't want to actively add anymore problems onto the others' shoulders-- or be a burden-- so when she approaches, it's with a small smile, carrying a bit of papers in her arms. ]
Ah, Oda-san...? Can we talk for a bit?
[ There's no anger in her voice. ]

[ oda immediately puts out the cigarette when he sees her, a flash of concern on his expression. she had been one of the few that he was trying to avoid the most but fate has never been kind to him.
he tilts his head. ]
Yeah, sure.

The moment when he says 'yes' is when she takes a seat on the bench next to him, humming a little thoughtfully to herself.
Struggling to find her words for a bit, she places the stack of papers on her lap, fiddling with her hands as if that would help her as she stares out into the distance. It doesn't. But eventually she settles into something, nodding to rekindle some sort of determination inside of her as her gaze fixes itself to look at Oda.
She doesn't hate him. Not a single bit. And that's why she has to ask: ]
Why did you volunteer to kill him, Oda-san?
[ She wants to know the truth, even if it hurts. The look in her eyes speaks measures-- there's nothing judgmental there. No anger, or hatred, either. Just calm curiosity of someone who wants to hear answers, even if her hands are trembling because she's a little bit scared to hear the answer. ]

[ the question feels heavy on his shoulders. of course, it's the question that he expected from her, but it doesn't help lessen the severity of it. the fact that she's asking him with such calm...oda feels guilty just having to taint her world with something so dark.
he sighs, running a hand through his hair. ]
I'm not sure. On one hand, I wanted to spare the others from doing it. Even if he didn't seem bothered, I didn't want Kino to do it and Clarisse...seemed too eager. Someone that likes to kill shouldn't be allowed to-- it's like letting a wild animal loose.
On the other hand...I didn't want Nine to die alone. I feel it would have scared him more if the Sergeant was the one doing the execution. A shot to the head is quicker than an electric chair when its done right...and well, that's something I'm used to doing.

It makes sense to her and she doesn't like the fact that it actually does. ]
I think... you're really strong. For being able to make a decision like that, without any hesitation. You could have left it up to Kino-san, or Clarisse-san, but you didn't.

[ oda blinks up at her, confused. even with her explanation, he doesn't understand it at all...what part of that is strong?
he's just a killer.
nevertheless, he nods, keeping his turmoil to himself. ]
Mm...if you say so.

[ Even if he might not think so, Sakura sure does. But that might be coming from someone who's been crying pretty often. ]
It's still really sad that you had to do it in the first place, but... I don't hate you for doing it for those reasons, Oda-san.
no subject
[ oda doesn't feel sad, at least. but maybe that's because he's grown so used to pulling the trigger. ]
Nine's situation was a lot sadder, I think.

[ oda sighs, heavily. obviously there's a lot that's being unsaid, but this would be a story for another time. ]
So don't worry about me, Sakura. I'll be alright.

[ oda hesitates, considering his words carefully. he doesn't know what to tell her, but he doesn't want to hurt her feelings. ]
Alright. But don't worry too much, ok?
no subject
[ Try being the key word here. But she's still going to worry nevertheless.
Sakura really is the mom friend, even if she's a child. ]
