WEEK 3: April 15th - April 19th

Third Week

The peaceful times are over. Moloch von Zinzer was murdered, and Nine was sentenced as his murderer. Everyone in Cartesio knows that.

Although life goes on, it seems the town of Cartesio isn't going to forget the tourists' transgressions. Not only they commited larceny in the cinema, they also murdered and executed in their town! It's no surprise their hospitality towards the visitors has cooled down considerably.

Not only they're maintaining a tense cordiality with them, they also have started talking behind the visitors' backs. All kinds of rumors are starting to sprout, yet nobody seems to be willing to say it to the tourists' faces. Talking directly to most passerby makes them distrustful, and nobody seems to want to be in close quarters alone with them.

It's only matter of time before the relationship between tourists and Cartesio starts degrading even further.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

[Good morning to you too, Keith. Kino was headed to the weapons shop, but I guess we're giving info now.]

We were dragged into messing with the theater, and the Sergeant gave us all something of ours in return. There were cameras though, so now the whole town knows we were behind it.

Talking to the townspeople could be tricky from now on.

[marmoron]

[Okay this part is completely new to him and Keith just blinks in surprise at that.]

Why would the Sergeant want a theater trashed? [....] And what do you mean he gave you something in return for it? What does he have of ours?

[quickpersuader]

I'm not sure about that yet.

[Probably something worth asking about, though. Over burgers... maybe fries.] I don't know what he gave to everyone else, but... Well, you know that country I told you about? The one where everyone got pets?

[marmoron]

Yeah.

[So Kino got his pet back meaning... Cosmo?

His expression darkens immediately, eyes snapping away from Kino and towards the lodge. ....Looks like he's got a new bone to pick, thanks.]

[quickpersuader]

I got the pet chicken I was gifted when I left that country.

[A beat.]

Except that chicken should be dead, because I ate it.

[So???]

[marmoron]

[Aaaaaand just as quickly, his eyes are back on her.]

You ate your pet?

[Look, he gets that this is a chicken, but..]

Wasn't that pet supposed to be something you raise with care?

[He'll touch this whole "should be dead, but isn't" thing later. This happens with all too much frequency in his world so the shock of it is a bit blunted.]

[quickpersuader]

I'm not a citizen of that country. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to eat meat at all.

[Because naturally that's going to raise a fuss when some of those animals are beloved pets.]

I'm a traveler. I can't take care of other living creatures easily when I'm on the road. So when they insisted on giving me a pet, I chose the most practical one.

[Nevermind that the place just has a reputation among travelers for giving out free food...]

[marmoron]

[Kino, Keith does a fuckton of traveling too. Lightyears worth of it at a time. You don't see him eating Cosmo because the space wolf is too difficult to take care of. For that matter, you don't see them turning Kaltenecker into premium steaks either.]

Aren't they going to ask you what happened to your chicken if you ever go back?

[quickpersuader]

[Keith you also have a space ship, Kino just has a motorcycle.]

I don't return to countries I've left. If I did that, I wouldn't get to see as many countries.

[marmoron]

[Quit yo entitled whining, young whippersnapper.]

You're going to run out of new countires to see eventually, you know.

[quickpersuader]

I wonder... There's many countries, and some of them aren't even known other than by rumor among travelers.

But I suppose if I did run out of countries, I could just stop traveling.

[marmoron]

What would you do then?

[quickpersuader]

Settle down somewhere, maybe... There's a lot of countries that wouldn't mind if I immigrated to them.

[Kino's a fairly skilled individual, after all.]

But I'll think about it harder if I ever run out of places in the world to see.

[Though it's clear from Kino's tone they aren't expecting that anytime soon.]
