WEEK 3: April 15th - April 19th

Third Week

The peaceful times are over. Moloch von Zinzer was murdered, and Nine was sentenced as his murderer. Everyone in Cartesio knows that.

Although life goes on, it seems the town of Cartesio isn't going to forget the tourists' transgressions. Not only they commited larceny in the cinema, they also murdered and executed in their town! It's no surprise their hospitality towards the visitors has cooled down considerably.

Not only they're maintaining a tense cordiality with them, they also have started talking behind the visitors' backs. All kinds of rumors are starting to sprout, yet nobody seems to be willing to say it to the tourists' faces. Talking directly to most passerby makes them distrustful, and nobody seems to want to be in close quarters alone with them.

It's only matter of time before the relationship between tourists and Cartesio starts degrading even further.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

[It takes Keith all of two seconds to remember just how uncomfortable trying to do this "cheering people up" business makes him feel. A task that's made harder by the fact that he's actually kinda pissed that Nine picked Moloch as a victim, but Milium is pretty clearly not the person to have that conversation with.]

There's no reason to take the Sergeant at his word.

[Of course, Milium would know that one better than anyone else.]

[It's okay, Keith. Half of Millium's CR in this game is absolutely useless at comforting people, she's used to it at this point.]

I know that. I dunno if he did, but then again...

I guess Nine was already dead? And so was everyone else, so... he was tryin' to join 'em again. Or something.

It's stupid.

[Millium had no real attachment to Moloch, but she can still be at least a little bitter that he died for practically no reason so far as she can see.]

[Keith tenses up at hearing that. He remembers Nine's reaction at that meeting -- the way he'd gone so abruptly silent, like all the life had been drained out of him the moment those kids in those red capes showed up. And what was it that he'd said? You'll see them again? Haha... ha. Hysterical shit.

Hand clenching into a fist, he blurts out just a little too forcefully.]

That doesn't make any sense.

[Deep breath, deep breath. He's already shouted at one person, and Milium isn't even the person he wants to shout at right now.]

[Thankfully, Millium is pretty used to people being forceful. She herself is a force of nature, after all.]

It doesn't. But that's what he said.

That he really missed 'em, like it was being just one part of a whole person bein' here without 'em.

If he had a death wish, he should have talked to someone -- asked to be taken out if he was that desperate to die instead of being an idiot and cracking dumb jokes like nothing was wrong this whole time! Moloch had nothing to do with any of this!

[Fucking christ who the hell makes "your mom is hot" comments while they're rampantly suicidal?!?! Keith just cuts himself off.]

Sorry. Let's - lemon pie or whatever.

I know. He was still makin' dumb jokes at the trial right up 'til he confessed, too...

[She shakes her head. She knows Keith's not yelling at her, and hell, she agrees with him.]

...You want to go to the diner? [Is that what he's saying?]

[Just. dragging his hand down his face out of sheer exasperation.]

No, I- [Grugh, why does he have to explain this??

Well fine. If he has to explain it, he's going to do it in the dryest tone possible, like he's explaining 1+1 with pauses between each word For Emphasis!!]

[She reaches up, scratching at her cheek sheepishly as she looks down.]

...Sorry. I'm not really all with it today.

[Nooo, really?]

[That's getting a bit of a noncommittal grump.]

[She cuts herself off before she can apologize again, at least.]

Yeah. Let's go.

[Well now that that's cleared up and they can move on a little from this topic, Milium's getting a teeny smile in return.]

Let's get moving then.

[And he'll start leading the way towards the diner.]

[Millium gives a teeny smile back, then follows along like a particularly tired puppy.
