WEEK 3: April 15th - April 19th

Third Week
The peaceful times are over. Moloch von Zinzer was murdered, and Nine was sentenced as his murderer. Everyone in Cartesio knows that.

Although life goes on, it seems the town of Cartesio isn't going to forget the tourists' transgressions. Not only they commited larceny in the cinema, they also murdered and executed in their town! It's no surprise their hospitality towards the visitors has cooled down considerably.

Not only they're maintaining a tense cordiality with them, they also have started talking behind the visitors' backs. All kinds of rumors are starting to sprout, yet nobody seems to be willing to say it to the tourists' faces. Talking directly to most passerby makes them distrustful, and nobody seems to want to be in close quarters alone with them.

It's only matter of time before the relationship between tourists and Cartesio starts degrading even further.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

It don't really bother me, cause I'm used to getting dirty looks. But what we gonna do if the locals get more sour?

They seem pretty pissed. Apparently this place used to be the perfect little town, no crime or nothing. Then we showed up and everything went to shit... Which the old bastard seems to be involved with.

He's been having us do things, and disrupting order as a result. Then they blame us, not realizing who was truly responsible. It's a clever plan.
streetwolf: (1947 VN - Ugh...)

[personal profile] streetwolf 2018-10-16 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And even if we don't do it. There's still stuff like the fire, unless anyone wants to own up to that?

I don't get why here though. Why make a bunch of happy little townfolk upset in the first place?

Maybe he benefits somehow from their unhappiness, or their happiness causes trouble for him.

relieable: (yes bail money means jail)

[personal profile] relieable 2018-10-16 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[that makes him think of something]

Maybe he gains power from their unhappiness, the same way some monsters feed off the fear or unhappiness of humans.

What do you know about monsters like that?

[Wow, that was a quick response.]
relieable: sums up our friendship pretty well (the strip club incident)

[personal profile] relieable 2018-10-16 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[he's just listening to all the conversations, okay!]

Well, in my culture, there are a lot of monsters in stories that deal with stuff like that. Ao Andon's diet is strictly fear from humans. And there are even a few monsters that have... uh... Sexual appetites.

[cover your ears, Sakura]

[She has to learn sometime! And this is... probably the worst possible way.]

Only in stories, though?
relieable: (he kissed a someone with a penis)

[personal profile] relieable 2018-10-16 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, only in stories. I've never actually seen a monster, or anything. But the stories are really popular, so they're kind of... ingrained in us?
carbide: (B04F. Bladed ordeal in the muck)

[personal profile] carbide 2018-10-16 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hmm.]

I see. It's a popular rumor, but no one has any evidence.
relieable: is not the end of the world (being compared to a muppet)

[personal profile] relieable 2018-10-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[nods] Yeah. There's a lot of stories like that from where I come from, in all the cultures.

I think I know what stories you're on about... Except all those turned out to be that person shitting on someone they didn't like.

Um... I don't know if he benefits from their unhappiness or not, but he told me that he doesn't hate other people's happiness.
carbide: (B10F. Fire walk of fortitude)

[personal profile] carbide 2018-10-17 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Strange. There's not much else he could be doing.

[personal profile] clearities 2018-10-17 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think he's doing all of this because he wants to... I'm pretty sure he's doing it because he was ordered to.
carbide: (B05F. The silent unknown abyss)

[personal profile] carbide 2018-10-17 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Then it could be his employer who hates their happiness.

[personal profile] clearities 2018-10-17 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I guess it's possible...
quickpersuader: (clouds)

[personal profile] quickpersuader 2018-10-17 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually...

When I spoke with him, he didn't seem to care about what happened with the townspeople, saying things like how they're irrelevant and how he doesn't have any affection for this town, and how it's only a place to keep us. But he did say a few interesting things.

"Being satisfied with a miserable existence goes against everything I believe in." When I asked him about people satisfied with a peaceful life, he ordered me to leave.

[personal profile] clearities 2018-10-17 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
So do you think that he doesn't like people being satisfied with a peaceful life...? Or like, a simple one, maybe?

But I asked him specifically if he hated the happiness of the people here and he said he didn't-- um, he said that he didn't mind people's happiness? And that hating it would make him a petty person, which he's not.

He... didn't sound like he was lying to me.
quickpersuader: (Blown by)

[personal profile] quickpersuader 2018-10-17 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He isn't a very good liar, that's true.

[Wow Kino.]

But if he "doesn't mind" their happiness, that could be the same as "doesn't care." The happiness or misery of the townspeople might not be what's connected to his goal.

marmoron: marmoron (judging)

[personal profile] marmoron 2018-10-17 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
That's not true. If there were no crimes at all, then those police records should've been empty. Instead those filing cabinets were full, but they were full of records that were all altered to look blank except for the documents from the incident on March 31st. Not to mention the staff at the fire station are adamant that the incident you're talking about was an accident rather than arson. The people here are being brainwashed.

[A beat.]

Not that this changes what we're gonna have to do when they start getting hostile.
protectandselfserve: but I think he's wrong! (well!)

[personal profile] protectandselfserve 2018-10-17 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm really not surprised. No town is that perfect, after all, which makes me wonder if they'd only be happy with us if we drank the local Kool-Aid.
marmoron: by request of the icon creator, pls do not take (appraising)

[personal profile] marmoron 2018-10-18 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Looking thoughtful for a moment.]

These folks just want to live normal lives without any disturbances. The Sergeant said that it'd cause him problems if they were injured or killed. If there was a way to get them to see that the Sergeant's the one causing the problems in town, that might get us somewhere.
protectandselfserve: he blinks. slowly. (Default)

[personal profile] protectandselfserve 2018-10-22 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
That is true, but I wonder how we'd actually go about accomplishing that?
streetwolf: (Default)

[personal profile] streetwolf 2018-10-18 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Shrug]

Look, that's just what the locals I've talked to said. Bad things like the fire don't happen and everyone's grown up together here.
