The peaceful times are over. Moloch von Zinzer was murdered, and Nine was sentenced as his murderer. Everyone in Cartesio knows that.
Although life goes on, it seems the town of Cartesio isn't going to forget the tourists' transgressions. Not only they commited larceny in the cinema, they also murdered and executed in their town! It's no surprise their hospitality towards the visitors has cooled down considerably.
Not only they're maintaining a tense cordiality with them, they also have started talking behind the visitors' backs. All kinds of rumors are starting to sprout, yet nobody seems to be willing to say it to the tourists' faces. Talking directly to most passerby makes them distrustful, and nobody seems to want to be in close quarters alone with them.
It's only matter of time before the relationship between tourists and Cartesio starts degrading even further.
In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and
the maps have been updated once again.

But if I get hurt or worse n' the end result is that he gets to go home for real? I'm okay with that.
[She's almost done with this.]
I'm not tryin' to hurt myself right now, anyway. Someone told me lately, it's bad to hold everything in, so I'm just tryin' to take things out on somethin' else.
[Like this gun. Or the poor target.]

Who is he to you anyway?
[If this is someone his daughter is okay dying for, he'd like to hear more about him.]

[She says that with certainty, at least.]
He and the others... they made me who I am now. Before I met them, things like what happened last weekend, none of that would've mattered to me at all. But 'cause of them, I know what it's like to care about people. I know what it's like to cry, 'cause I didn't until I had to leave them.
And when I did, they all held me and cried with me.
And none of us would have banded together like we did if not for Rean. He brought out the best in all of us... and I thought, even if I were here, if people back home missed me, it'd be okay so long as he could hold them together, y'know?
But he's...
[He's still here. He's still here, and the Sergeant's done something to him, and she's helpless.]

It's just a feeling I have, but-- someone like that wouldn't be here if there wasn't a good reason. And I'm certain that he feels more at ease with you here too.
[They are already sorely at a disadvantage here, and it's not realistic to add more to their plate, any of them. Certainly not him, who's already got Odasaku to worry about. And yet-- seeing her try to carry that weight without the rest of her friends...
He's reminded of someone. It's not rational, but--]
...if there's something that I'm able to do to help him, then I'll do it.

Dazai...

...Thank you. Right now... right now, we just gotta keep doing what we're doing, right? What he wants, n' fighting back how we can.
[Her work finished, she pushes herself to her feet and faces the target again.]
Forward. Relentlessly!
[Bang.
...And she hits the outer rim of the target. Her aim leaves something to be desired. But it looks like Dazai's offer has cheered her up a little, at least.]
