WEEK 3: April 15th - April 19th

Third Week

The peaceful times are over. Moloch von Zinzer was murdered, and Nine was sentenced as his murderer. Everyone in Cartesio knows that.

Although life goes on, it seems the town of Cartesio isn't going to forget the tourists' transgressions. Not only they commited larceny in the cinema, they also murdered and executed in their town! It's no surprise their hospitality towards the visitors has cooled down considerably.

Not only they're maintaining a tense cordiality with them, they also have started talking behind the visitors' backs. All kinds of rumors are starting to sprout, yet nobody seems to be willing to say it to the tourists' faces. Talking directly to most passerby makes them distrustful, and nobody seems to want to be in close quarters alone with them.

It's only matter of time before the relationship between tourists and Cartesio starts degrading even further.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

He was involved in the cleanup, but he didn’t do it. Not that anyone really wanted to listen.

[That gets a very small frown out of the traveler, eyebrows shifting ever so slightly closer.]

Did they ever find the real culprit?

Yeah. Turns out it was Jason’s dad.

[Jughead frowns, and shares something he otherwise wouldn’t be.]

Threatened to do to me what he did to Jason, so that’s why my dad let himself take the fall.

Blackmail.

[Not that uncommon, but never pleasant.]

Did they catch him?

[burgerprince]

Too late. He was already dead when they realised.

[quickpersuader]

[A slight tilt of the head.]

And who caused that one?

He did. Hoped all his secrets would die with him, probably.

[quickpersuader]

It doesn't sound like he was successful hiding it, then.

[burgerprince]

If there’s any way to make sure all your dirty laundry gets dug up, it’s dying.

[quickpersuader]

At least there's that, then.

[Lives can't be brought back. But if nothing else, maybe they got some closure.]

Yeah. For better or worse, everyone knows a whole lot more about each other now.

[But he’s sure that there’s more to come out.]

If it's normally a peaceful place... Deaths like that must have really shaken things up.

[burgerprince]

Worst of all, it’s a small town, everyone thought they knew each other.

[Clearly, they didn’t.]

[quickpersuader]

People will find ways to keep their secrets if they need to.

[Or so it has been in Kino's experience.]

Hopefully things can become peaceful again eventually. [Or maybe it won't. Sometimes, things just break apart, and there's not much you can do to stop it.]

[burgerprince]

Maybe. But a different peace than we had before where it's not just everyone hiding everything, pretending things are okay.

[quickpersuader]

...If you can manage to create a peaceful society like that, it sounds like the type of place I'd be interested in visiting.

[burgerprince]

[He doesn't know about creating it himself, but there's a small smile.]

You should pop by Riverdale anyway. Can't promise it won't be a mess when you get there, but the burgers are great.

[quickpersuader]

If I ever find a way to travel between worlds, I'll be sure to pay a visit.

[It's an honest answer. Does Kino expect to ever be able to do that? No. But would Kino jump at the chance if it presented itself?

Absolutely.]

There's probably some way to, given Sarge got all of us here. Maybe you can ask him.
