Week 3 - Trial

Week 3: Trial

April 20th. It was now time for the trial.

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Compared to last week, there's less morbid curiosity and more quiet outrage. Everyone's glaring at the visitors while they enter the courtroom.

The number of podiums draped in black has increased dramatically. Nine's, Mako's, Sandalphon's, and Bakugou's have joined Moloch's, raising the number to five. That's one sixth of the available podiums. How many more will be covered in black velvet before these two months end?

Once everyone is at the right podium, the Sergeant bangs his gavel. He doesn't seem to be in better mood than before.
"Today the victim is Katsuki Bakugou. Solve it."

Without even bothering to taunt or be as antagonistic as usual, he waves the gavel. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. Start your discussion."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

Glowing like that would sure light up the darkness around you.
unfashionably: talking, serious (you take things so hard)

[personal profile] unfashionably 2018-10-20 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it would. But it would only make me a target, not other people. The thing about being a tiny speck of light in darkness is? It makes everything around you seem darker, not brighter.
snideper: (the way is long)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-20 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Lights on, lights off; use that superhuman speed of yours to get out of the way while Bakugou's still getting that explosion of his ready, and now you know where he is.
unfashionably: (this is temporary)

[personal profile] unfashionably 2018-10-20 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not how it works. Everyone's eyes, even mine, need time to adjust to the dark.
snideper: (and i will cover you until you go)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-20 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The firepower would've lit the place up, too, wouldn't it? Even if you haven't adjusted to the rest of your surroundings, you'd know where the light's coming from.

I can't tell if you're talking about his quirk or my magic. Since I haven't seen his quirk, I couldn't tell you what it would do. But I already told you my magic would give me less visibility, not more.
snideper: (and the mother we share)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-20 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm talking about his "quirk" or whatever. The explosions. I haven't seen it, but it's an easy assumption to make based on all the fire damage. Fire lights up a space.
Edited (i wrote "either" and then realized clarisse would not acknowledge the possibility that sting hasn't seen it) 2018-10-20 21:00 (UTC)

His quirk was explosions not fire. He could cause a spark with his quirk, but it'd only light up the area briefly.

[ This is important cause fire is his thing ok. ]
snideper: (and the mother we share)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-20 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Got it. Still, it's enough to know where he's coming from. Looking at the tapestries and stuff, too, I'm guessing some stuff actually did catch fire.

Even if you have superhuman senses?
snideper: (the way is long)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-20 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Aha.

[mad she didn't catch that and call it out herself but this is the closest to acknowledgement of natalie being good at something that clarisse will offer her]

[She looks vaguely uneasy because every time Clarisse and her are on the same page it increases her Stress Levels, rip!!]
unfashionably: (this is temporary)

[personal profile] unfashionably 2018-10-20 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, even then.

Are those super weakened here too, or do they still make it easier for you to see and hear and stuff?
unfashionably: talking, serious (you take things so hard)

[personal profile] unfashionably 2018-10-20 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're thinking I heard him moving around, you don't need good senses for that. Being skilled at fighting in low-light conditions like Clarisse will do the trick.

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-10-20 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not assuming anything yet. I just want to know the answer to the question.
unfashionably: (a downcast sting)

[personal profile] unfashionably 2018-10-20 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
They're not as sharp as they were. Still decent though, even if it's nothin' by comparison.
amburere: (₣ł₣₮Ɏ)

[personal profile] amburere 2018-10-20 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Guess this is what he's doing today, defending Bakugou's combat prowess. ]

The brat would have gotten a hit in if that's the case. He wouldn't miss an easy target repeatedly.
snideper: (come in misery where you can seem)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-20 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Factor in the superhuman speed. Lights on, lights out right away; that hothead is already firing off an explosion but this guy's already well out of the way.
icariot: (4. Negative-- nepotist)

[personal profile] icariot 2018-10-20 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Except he still would have had to approach Bakugou to attack him.
snideper: (and the mother we share)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-20 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Lights on, lights off, and if you're speedy enough to get out of the way, you're speedy enough to get up in the kid's business and out of it again. Combat experience with superhuman speed must make for a hell of a combination.
icariot: (vulturous pt 2)

[personal profile] icariot 2018-10-20 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Except Bakugou could just set off explosions directly around himself to act as defense. Sting wouldn't want to run headfirst into an explosion like that, but if the preference was attacking at a distance, like you, that defense wouldn't matter.
snideper: (the way is long)

[personal profile] snideper 2018-10-20 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe he could, but did he? That place was a wreck from top to bottom. I'm thinking about what I would do if I could go so fast; if he's firing an explosion in one direction, that's your chance to catch him off-guard, if you leave yourself with enough room to get the hell out once you strike.

What's your interest in defending this guy, anyway? You haven't gotten off my ass for a minute.
icariot: (somber)

[personal profile] icariot 2018-10-20 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering it was so destroyed it'd be hard to say he did or didn't. You're forgetting the fact that the kid is pretty damn expert in hand to hand--there would have been an injury on the attacker if they managed to get close to him and no one has any injuries. That leaves people who are agile and attack from a distance. Like you, Clarisse.

That's leaving out that Sting doesn't think like you do; even if he could react like you think you would with his powers, doesn't mean that's how his powers actually work or how he'd think to use 'em.
