He wanted one of Gerard's feathers. Apparently they have facilities for genetic analysis here. Though since he refused to offer me anything for it, I did not give him any.

Likely both for that reason, and perhaps to preserve the appearance of the town as well. A laboratory might not fit in this time period as well.

They don't really seem like the type of people to turn to television for entertainment in the first place. [Which is probably why there isn't even one communal lobby television or something.]

Yeah. They probably have plays, or knit, or make those glass-bottle boats.
