Week 4: Investigation

A late frost has settled over Cartesio. Ice clings to the grass, to the variety show stage, not yet melted by the sun. How could it be, as it's yet to rise Friday morning?

It is only technically Friday, as the planned variety show reaches into its very final hour. Nearly everything on the schedule's been completed, and the cleanup process has begun.

That's probably why no one expects it, not now. Not this early. It's hard to miss, whether you're attending the show or getting some rest. After all, the sound, it comes from somewhere close to the motel. Somewhere close to the show.

Three gun shots ring out at one in the morning, echoing through the park. Something has gone very wrong.

[ oda hears the gunshots, and he is running towards the park as fast as he can. ]

[Olympia immediately takes off running toward the source of the sound, mercifully preventing any possible continuation of her comedy performance.]

What the--?

[ Bolin was helping clean up, but the gun shots startle him and he starts running in that direction ]

[Kino follows, revolver drawn and pointed at the ground as she runs.]

[ You'll have to maneuver around the few panicked townsfolk still in attendance, but it seems like the shots sounded out from somewhere near the stage. ]

[cartesio]

[ This is thankfully after Olympia's performance, so the world is not deprived of that, don't you worry. Seems the stage is your destination. ]

[cartesio]

[ Unless someone's doing a new, creative act, there's probably trouble. ]

[tuffguy]

One side, please, one side!

[ Bolin tries to delicately push his way through the townsfolk as he hurries closer to the stage ]

[odasaku]

Kino, help the townsfolk leave the area. [ because he’s going to go towards the source of the sound, a gun gripped tightly in his hand, ready to fire a warning shot. ]

Who’s there?! Show yourself!

[carbide]

[Oh good. Olympia ends up approaching behind the stage--do we have a backstage murder?]

[cartesio]

[ They don't seem in any mood to be difficult, that's for sure. The stage itself... It's empty? You're going to have to look around it. ]

[cartesio]

[ No response. ]

[quickpersuader]

Right.

[And, raising her voice as best as she can over the crowd:]

Everyone, please, this way!

[odasaku]

[ oda is following right behind her. robot or not, he will make sure she’s not hurt. ]

[tuffguy]

[ great what he always wanted to do--

but going around the left side of the stage, working his way to behind it, looking to see if he can find anything ]

[marmoron]

[Bollin's got the left side covered, so Keith'll head towards the right side of the stage, sword drawn and Cosmo leading the way.]

[pecker]

[Well THIS is interesting, seeing as how Niwa is on security with her birds watching the whole variety show area.... She's going to be looking at those rather than running around like a chicken with her head cut off. Although her physical location is somewhere near the backstage area, where she could be easily contacted by the rest of the security team.]

[cartesio]

[ What Olympia will find... It's grisly, to say the least.

Blood pools on the icy ground, dripping from what's clearly a fresh body. Horrifyingly enough? The person you is stuck with his back arched, the blood falling from his chest. Bloody froth clings to his mouth. His face is contorted in pain, agony.

After all the work he did to put on this event, is this how he deserved to die?

Forsythe Pendleton "Jughead" Jones III is dead. ]

[cartesio]

[ A little more to the back, Bolin. ]

[cartesio]

[ A little more to the back, Keith. ]

BODY ANNOUNCEMENT

[cartesio]

This went better than expected, all things considered.

[From the crowd, as if he had always been there, the Sergeant steps forward. He clasps his hands ]

We have an unfortunate victim tonight. Our dearly departed, F...Fo...Foursides? Forsooth? [He puts a hand against his ear. He knows the name, but he's not sure how to pronounce it. Finally, giving up:] Our dearly departed Jughead Jones will want justice. Given how late at night it is, the trial will be at dawn tomorrow, but you should investigate now. You wouldn't want any evidence to go missing because you waited too long, would you?

You'll find police cars at the spots of interest, so you don't have to wander all over the town and sneak into random places at 1:30 AM. Be careful when walking, it's really cold right now.

[And with that, the Sergeant leaves. Good luck, everyone]

[cartesio]

[ The birds will certainly point her in the right direction, but then again, she's already pretty close... ]

[tuffguy]

[ SCREAMS ]

[carbide]

[Fortunately, Olympia doesn't have a stomach to be sick to.

She turns and nods to Oda, then shouts (or rather, speaks in a really loud version of her normal voice).]
