Fifth Week

Everything's getting worse. Rose Nylund and Frasier Crane murdered Jughead Jones during the event Jughead worked so hard to organize. Given some of the townspeople were in attendance, it didn't give a good impression -- if the visitors did this when trying to be good people and get along with Cartesio, then how will they behave once they get into destroying everything? The cruel method of Jughead's death also left everyone quite horrified, too.

That may be why it's no surprise the town's quiet unrest is slowly turning into real, tangible fury.

During the week, from time to time stones break some of the windows of the motel, looking outside shows a random passerby running away. Graffiti is left on the walls: 'SEE IF YOU LIKE THIS' 'MURDERERS' 'YOU'RE GOING TO DESTROY US ALL', and other similar messages. Some of the store owners hesitate when the visitors approach, but they don't refuse service because money is always nice.

The Sergeant's pervasive influence is starting to cover not only you, but also the entire town of Cartesio. After all, everything that's happening to you and the motel? It's the result of what you and the other visitors have done.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

Motel lobby

[pursuitofdeath]

[Dazai was just on his way out when he sees Sakura’s memorial. He hums— it’s a lovely sentiment. And it brings a bit of beauty to their motel, which is hard to find now, with the graffiti and rock throwing.]

...It would look nice with some candles. Perhaps it would help chase away some of the darkness.

[clearities]

Dazai-san, hello. [ Sakura smiles; it's a little wistful, but there's something about her expression that seems distant, too. ] You wouldn't happen to know where to find candles, would you?

[pursuitofdeath]

Hmmm... the staff may have some. After all— candles are good to keep around in the case of a power outage. Shall we ask them?

[He’d rather go with her, considering the way public opinion continues to work against them.]

[clearities]

Yeah! [ She sounds determined, to say the least. ] I hope they'll help me out.

[pursuitofdeath]

Oh— I think if there is anyone who’s voice can still reach them, it’s yours Sakura-chan.

[Even someone like him can’t help but want to see her safe and happy. He has a feeling it’s the same for most anyone who’s taken a moment to really talk to her.]

Anyone who is still willing to listen at all will recognize your sincerity.

[clearities]

... you think so? [ She laces her fingers together, looking rather sheepish. ] I do want to try. Talking to them-- the people here. Ruining the motel isn't helping anyone, either. We should be working together, not against each other.

[pursuitofdeath]

Logically, our situation would improve if we had their cooperation. It would be difficult however-- it all starts with communication.

No matter what happens, if you don't give up... well, then there will always be a possibility that things might change. The only way to fail for certain... is to quit trying.

[clearities]

Yeah... I remember hearing that they wouldn't believe us about the Sergeant-san, too, in the newspapers. [ So he's right that it would be difficult. ] I won't give up. I can't. There's too much to lose, after all.

[pursuitofdeath]

You might be the best suited for that task. However... you can still rely on us if there's something we can do.

It would be nice to have their support... but I think more than that, the real turning point will be when all of us can work together.

["Without killing one another." It just goes unsaid.]

[clearities]

Eh? [ She blinks, a little confused. ] Me...? You really think so? But you're right. We do have to find a way to work together.

[pursuitofdeath]

We all have our strengths. For example... In my case, I'm highly capable of putting together strategies. But... when it comes to appealing to a person's emotions... I'd be completely useless.

Sakura-chan on the other hand is sweet and honest, and can appeal to emotions... whereas you may lack the good sense required to judge others.

We all have things like that. But where one fails, another excels. So it's simply a matter of finding what we all have to offer and putting them together.

[clearities]

I see... so if we work together, we can play to each others strengths and weaknesses, right?

[pursuitofdeath]

Correct. That's most likely the greatest advantage that we have right now over Sarge-san.

[clearities]

Then I hope we can do it. That we can work together.
