Week 5: April 29th - May 3rd

Fifth Week
Everything's getting worse. Rose Nylund and Frasier Crane murdered Jughead Jones during the event Jughead worked so hard to organize. Given some of the townspeople were in attendance, it didn't give a good impression -- if the visitors did this when trying to be good people and get along with Cartesio, then how will they behave once they get into destroying everything? The cruel method of Jughead's death also left everyone quite horrified, too.

That may be why it's no surprise the town's quiet unrest is slowly turning into real, tangible fury.

During the week, from time to time stones break some of the windows of the motel, looking outside shows a random passerby running away. Graffiti is left on the walls: 'SEE IF YOU LIKE THIS' 'MURDERERS' 'YOU'RE GOING TO DESTROY US ALL', and other similar messages. Some of the store owners hesitate when the visitors approach, but they don't refuse service because money is always nice.

The Sergeant's pervasive influence is starting to cover not only you, but also the entire town of Cartesio. After all, everything that's happening to you and the motel? It's the result of what you and the other visitors have done.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

That would depend on what your primary goal is. If you want to defend your base, then staying in it and building your defense around it is ideal. But there are also a lot of risks to individuals in a building because of it's walls. You can get cornered or hit with different dangerous long range weapons or effects...

[He's kind of big on complicated strategies. He realizes he's probably going too in depth about something that includes a lot of "what ifs" and decides he should probably spare her the rant.]

...well. Hopefully something like that won't be necessary, but if it is, we can come up with something I'm sure.

My primary goal is whatever doesn't get us killed, honestly.

[She doesn't look disinterested by what he's said, though, as she glances away for a moment.]

Do you think about that kind of stuff a lot? I know it mentions that you're good at it in the guestbook.

Agreed.

[And he's been putting more thought into it lately, now that things are taking an even greater turn for the not so good.]

The Armed Detective Agency is a bit unusual. We all have different abilities, but in my case this is sort of thing is where I'm most useful to them. So I've been giving our situation here a lot of thought as well. Whatever it comes down to, I'll do my best to help.

Yeah? Was that what your whole... thing last night was about? Helping?

[If she's hesitant about bringing it up, she tries not to let it show.]

I thought so, at the time, at least. But it was altogether a completely illogical set of actions and behaviors.

[He’s had time to examine it now. It still puzzles him, but he’s not unaware anymore.]

...that’s never been an issue for me before. It’s... troubling.

...It’s never been an issue for you to do anything illogical?

[The skepticism in her voice is clear, though she continues on shortly.]

Well, there must be a reason it started now.

They say all gifted individuals have a few screws loose. In my case it’s very simple to view things in an impartial, logical manner. Because I have always lacked a certain something that other people have. My mind isn’t clouded by emotions... because I’ve never had them.

...or didn’t, perhaps.

Now everything is quite muddled and I’m not sure what the source of it is. The fact remains that something... made me act very strange yesterday. And if I don’t figure that out, then— I may be more of a liability than a help.

People who say that are idiots who only focus on cases where that’s true.

[In her opinion, at least. Regardless, she moves on.]

...So basically, what I’m hearing is that you’ve never had normal feelings before and you don’t know how to deal with suddenly caring about things. Is that a fair summary?

[Oh sweet Natalie... it’s better you don’t know.]

That is... yes. That’s a fair assessment of the situation.

[This is what he’s dealing with.]

You're twenty two years old, and you're telling me you've never had a...

[She takes a deep breath, shaking her head as she tries to decide the best way to react to this information.]

...Okay. I believe you. [...] God, why did the one psychiatrist here have to be a homicidal asshole?

I assure you, I’m considered just as strange where I come from as I am here.

[It’s fine. He’s an alien.]

Well I can’t say it’s never happened here. But it seems to have gotten worse.

[—because emotions are like an illness right?]

Gotten worse, like... You're feeling worse, or you're having more of them? Because that's not worse. That's just, like, normal either way.

[She pauses, then...]

Do you, like... Want to talk about them? Your, um... Feelings.

[As the ellipses indicate, it sounds like it's being dragged out of her.]
