Fifth Week

Everything's getting worse. Rose Nylund and Frasier Crane murdered Jughead Jones during the event Jughead worked so hard to organize. Given some of the townspeople were in attendance, it didn't give a good impression -- if the visitors did this when trying to be good people and get along with Cartesio, then how will they behave once they get into destroying everything? The cruel method of Jughead's death also left everyone quite horrified, too.

That may be why it's no surprise the town's quiet unrest is slowly turning into real, tangible fury.

During the week, from time to time stones break some of the windows of the motel, looking outside shows a random passerby running away. Graffiti is left on the walls: 'SEE IF YOU LIKE THIS' 'MURDERERS' 'YOU'RE GOING TO DESTROY US ALL', and other similar messages. Some of the store owners hesitate when the visitors approach, but they don't refuse service because money is always nice.

The Sergeant's pervasive influence is starting to cover not only you, but also the entire town of Cartesio. After all, everything that's happening to you and the motel? It's the result of what you and the other visitors have done.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

[She follows after as Kino goes in, though, glancing around.]

[Kino's peering around curiously, eventually coming across those strange tools Oda found earlier.]

What are these for...?

[Some kind of futuristic persuader?]

[Natalie, in the midst of glancing around, looks Kino's way when she speaks.]

I can probably tell you what most things here are. What're you looking at?

[quickpersuader]

[Kino just picks up one of these suckers with a puzzled look.]

[robitussin]

[She glances at it before answering.]

It doesn't look quite like a curling iron, so I'm assuming it's to make your hair wavy.

[quickpersuader]

[Staaaaaaaaaaare.]

...I see.

[Beauty tools truly are strange.]

It just looks very... powerful?

[robitussin]

Yeah. How it works is, like... It heats up a lot, enough that your hair stays in the general shape of those molds, I guess.

[quickpersuader]

[Hmmm. Kino carefully sets it down again.]

I've never seen anything like it in the countries I've visited. ...But I don't usually go to salons, either.

[robitussin]

I think your hair is probably too short for it, too.

[A small shrug.]

Anything else you're wondering about?

[quickpersuader]

Well, it would be a problem if I had to do a lot to take care of it.

[Traveling and all. She reaches over for another piece.]

[robitussin]

[She glances at it.]

Oh, that's a curling iron. It's similar to the last one, but it makes your hair curly instead of wavy.

[quickpersuader]

[Curling, huh...]

I never would have imagined using shapes like this to do something like that.

[She says, though really she never thinks about it in the first place, so of course she wouldn't.]

Have you ever used things like this before? For your own hair.

[robitussin]

[She nods.]

Yeah, sometimes. For events where I had to look more formal. They're too much of a hassle to use normally.

[quickpersuader]

[Sounds reasonable enough, yeah. Kino sets it aside.]

Think you'll ever use them here?

[robitussin]

[She shrugs.]

Probably not. Unless anyone throws a nice party to try and get us more favor with the locals, I don't see a reason to.

[quickpersuader]

Not very interested in fashion or things like that?

[robitussin]

I mean, I make sure I look fine, but I don't usually have enough time to go all out like that.

[quickpersuader]

It can take a while, huh? There was one country that would use travelers as models for clothes in exchange for exquisite food...

It never took me so long to get dressed.

[robitussin]

[There's a small noise of amusement, though it's not at Kino's expense.]

Somehow I can't picture you going for that, but... I guess eating is a pretty big plus.

[quickpersuader]

Food is very important.

[Look at how serious she is.]

Especially food you can't get anywhere else. I was told there hasn't been a single traveler who turned down the offer while they visited.

[robitussin]

So... Buffet style, if I'm guessing right?

[There's a small smile on her face, despite it all.]

[quickpersuader]

Yep. I made sure to get as much out of it as I could.

[She sounds so proud of herself for successfully stuffing her face.]

[robitussin]

What kind of stuff did they give you?

[quickpersuader]

They had a lot of foods I've never seen before, and they plated them in all these fancy shapes... Although, in the end the appearance didn't really matter too much to me compared to the taste.

It was all delicious.

[robitussin]

Yeah? What was your favorite?
