Fifth Week

Everything's getting worse. Rose Nylund and Frasier Crane murdered Jughead Jones during the event Jughead worked so hard to organize. Given some of the townspeople were in attendance, it didn't give a good impression -- if the visitors did this when trying to be good people and get along with Cartesio, then how will they behave once they get into destroying everything? The cruel method of Jughead's death also left everyone quite horrified, too.

That may be why it's no surprise the town's quiet unrest is slowly turning into real, tangible fury.

During the week, from time to time stones break some of the windows of the motel, looking outside shows a random passerby running away. Graffiti is left on the walls: 'SEE IF YOU LIKE THIS' 'MURDERERS' 'YOU'RE GOING TO DESTROY US ALL', and other similar messages. Some of the store owners hesitate when the visitors approach, but they don't refuse service because money is always nice.

The Sergeant's pervasive influence is starting to cover not only you, but also the entire town of Cartesio. After all, everything that's happening to you and the motel? It's the result of what you and the other visitors have done.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

[She shakes her head.]

A vastly different kind of bullshit than all your... superpower stuff.

[robitussin]

[A moment passes where she looks at him, deliberating and weighing her options. When she speaks, it's with care to make it as casual as everything else she's mentioned.]

No lizards or shitty driving, but most people's parents don't have to ask their children who they are because they've literally forgotten their name and face. Just, you know, a day in the life.

[amburere]

[ He shifts at that, hands rustling in his pockets. ]

Intentional? Or some bullshit?

[robitussin]

If you’re asking whether or not she meant it or if she was just fucking with me, she sincerely didn’t know who I was.

[There’s more to the story, of course, but she leaves it at that for the moment.]

[amburere]

[ ... ]

Heard of shit like that. Most people would pick the lizard.

[robitussin]

I'd definitely pick the lizard.

[It's said with a smile that's bitter and cutting, though the sharpness isn't directed towards him.]

[amburere]

Just don't let him drive. [ A beat. ]

Got anyway to fix it?

[robitussin]

In the incredibly unlikely scenario that I meet a lizard man, I will decline to let him drive me anywhere, thanks.

[A small shrug.]

It's not something I can change, but I'm leaving next year no matter what. Once I turn 18, they can't stop me.

[amburere]

You're welcome.

[ Head tilt. ]

Could they stop you now?

[robitussin]

[After a moment passes, she shakes her head.]

...Probably not, but I'm going to cause even more problems than I have now if I run away before even graduating high school.

[amburere]

[ A beat and a slight nod. ]

It's a pain in the ass.

[robitussin]

[She nods, but some of her agitation seems to be fading away.]

But only for a few more months, at least. Then I'm not looking back.

[amburere]

Careful not to fall in with the wrong crowd. [ He could point at himself, but smirking is so much less effort. ]

[robitussin]

[After a moment, she returns that smirk.]

Aww. Now who's doing the not-concerned thing?

[amburere]

[ Point, kind of but- ]

You wouldn't make the cut. We're pretty exclusive.

[robitussin]

Yeah, I figured. I'm all non-superpowered and all.

[A pause.]

I'm also not really the tossing corpses around type, which is probably the bigger issue.

[amburere]

Quirks don't seal the deal. [ He grins. ] And hey, if we lose our lizard chauffeur I might be willin' to overlook that.

[robitussin]

[She laughs, but more out of surprise than any genuine amusement.]

Right, a chauffeur for a bunch of messed up strangers. Just what I always dreamed of.

[amburere]

It's a dream job, I know.

[robitussin]

[There's another half amused noise, but there's genuine curiosity in her next question. Not because she has interest, but because despite everything, she still wonders about what he's come from.]

What does seal the deal, then?

[amburere]

[ ... ]

Ideals and convictions. A villain who just wants to destroy with no purpose is just as trash as a hero who wants to save others to be famous.

[robitussin]

...Well, I don't want to do either of those things, so I guess you made the right call.

[Not that she sounds too torn up about it.]

[amburere]
