Week 5: April 29th - May 3rd

Fifth Week

Everything's getting worse. Rose Nylund and Frasier Crane murdered Jughead Jones during the event Jughead worked so hard to organize. Given some of the townspeople were in attendance, it didn't give a good impression -- if the visitors did this when trying to be good people and get along with Cartesio, then how will they behave once they get into destroying everything? The cruel method of Jughead's death also left everyone quite horrified, too.

That may be why it's no surprise the town's quiet unrest is slowly turning into real, tangible fury.

During the week, from time to time stones break some of the windows of the motel, looking outside shows a random passerby running away. Graffiti is left on the walls: 'SEE IF YOU LIKE THIS' 'MURDERERS' 'YOU'RE GOING TO DESTROY US ALL', and other similar messages. Some of the store owners hesitate when the visitors approach, but they don't refuse service because money is always nice.

The Sergeant's pervasive influence is starting to cover not only you, but also the entire town of Cartesio. After all, everything that's happening to you and the motel? It's the result of what you and the other visitors have done.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

She's smart. I trusted she would know to back away if she saw it inside.

Anyway, I thought the payoff for us would be worth it, but... I don't think I'll be trying anything like that again soon.

[She's been trying to keep calm as well, but...]

Payoff? What payoff did we get, exactly? They were throwing rocks through our windows before, what do you think they're going to start doing now?

Cut the bullshit.

If the meeting was right, someone there should have gotten a medal. That's one less person who has a reason to kill.

None of the townspeople seem to want to kill us so far. A building can be rebuilt. But two people dead...

Well, until now, I thought reversing that would be impossible.

[robitussin]

If you were really worried about someone else getting a medal, you would have let someone else start the fire.

[She crosses her arms.]

Just admit you wanted one.

Of course I want one. [Not even gonna lie there.] But even if it went to someone else, I thought it was a worthwhile trade.

[oh... this makes him more angry. like what Kino said before was some half-assed apology]

I got a medal without burning down a fucking building! [he's been keeping this a secret, but it just suddenly spills out now] We all wanna get outta here, but doing shit like that is gonna make the town hate us! I keep saying, we need to stop doing what the Sergeant says!

[quickpersuader]

It was probably for destroying something else, right? [Given Millium got hers for the most harmless one.] Judging by the missions so far, he's probably going to continue to escalate them anyway.

[So yeah, she's not really going to argue that point either.]

And... there was another casualty I didn't account for. So like I said, I'm not planning to do something like that next time.

[relieable]

[if he thinks about when he got the medal, it was for destroying something. she's absolutely right.

Osomatsu bristles, but he otherwise shuts up. not because he's run out of things to say, but because if he says anything more, he might regret it. tomorrow is...]

We’ve gotten one every week, even the week where we tried not to do what the Sergeant told us. You had no reason to think nobody would get a medal if we didn’t burn down a fucking building!

You’re either lying to me, or you’re an idiot!

[quickpersuader]

We tried not to, but we still technically made bad impressions... Enough that he was proud of us for it.

[She releases a soft sigh.]

Which means I'm an idiot, I suppose.

[robitussin]

We could have made a bad impression without committing arson!

[quickpersuader]

No, not that one.

We were supposed to make a bad impression on the reporter - and we did, even though we tried not to. So according to the Sergeant, it still counted.

This one was a little more specific than that.

[robitussin]

By that logic, we could have just burned part of it. One of the tables or a part of the wall.

[quickpersuader]

"Burn down this place" doesn't leave too much room for interpretation.

[robitussin]

Yeah, except you didn’t even do that. It’s still standing. If you really believed we had to do exactly what was there, then you fucked it up anyways.

[quickpersuader]

I already realize I messed up more than I meant to.

[robitussin]

Then the least you could do is apologize and act like you actually care about the fact that you fucked all of us over because you thought you knew better than all of us.

[She sighs.]

[quickpersuader]

If I apologized, would any of you actually accept it?

[robitussin]

If you actually meant it. If anything you did actually mattered to you and you weren’t just saying it to get everyone off your back, it’d be a start.

[quickpersuader]

[She'll spend a moment thinking on that. When she does speak, it's a slow, even tone.]

Then... I'll apologize for the damage to our reputation, and Lucille, and how closely I endangered everyone else. Those weren't intentional, but that's what happened to everyone because of the choice that I made, so those are my responsibility.

Anything else... I'd probably be lying if I apologized for.

[robitussin]

[At that, she drags her hands down her face quickly before continuing.

Right, you say you're sorry, but you just with the same tone you always use, like it doesn't matter to you at all. Which, I guess it doesn't, because we don't. You're the only one you care about.
