Week 5: April 29th - May 3rd

Fifth Week
Everything's getting worse. Rose Nylund and Frasier Crane murdered Jughead Jones during the event Jughead worked so hard to organize. Given some of the townspeople were in attendance, it didn't give a good impression -- if the visitors did this when trying to be good people and get along with Cartesio, then how will they behave once they get into destroying everything? The cruel method of Jughead's death also left everyone quite horrified, too.

That may be why it's no surprise the town's quiet unrest is slowly turning into real, tangible fury.

During the week, from time to time stones break some of the windows of the motel, looking outside shows a random passerby running away. Graffiti is left on the walls: 'SEE IF YOU LIKE THIS' 'MURDERERS' 'YOU'RE GOING TO DESTROY US ALL', and other similar messages. Some of the store owners hesitate when the visitors approach, but they don't refuse service because money is always nice.

The Sergeant's pervasive influence is starting to cover not only you, but also the entire town of Cartesio. After all, everything that's happening to you and the motel? It's the result of what you and the other visitors have done.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

[Kino looks at Keith, expression solemn.]

...Do you actually want me to defend myself right now?

[She's getting the feeling it would be a pointless endeavor.]

You can say whatever you want, but the only thing I want to know is what the hell is so valuable to you that you're willing to put everyone at risk to try and get it back from the Sergeant.

...I want freedom. But I don't want to kill anyone for it.

You've been volunteering to play executioner every single time, haven't you? You finally did kill the old lady last week. What do you mean, you don't want to kill for it?
quickpersuader: (so the)

[personal profile] quickpersuader 2018-11-02 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
That wasn't for freedom. That was because I know how to euthanize people quickly. Although... I was too angry at Rose to give her that.

But you already asked me about that.

[There's a moment of icy silence.]

Did the Sergeant give you what you wanted after everything you did yesterday.

Are you planning to kill me for it?

[Keith raises an eyebrow.]

No. [That's deadpan as fuck.] I'm not playing the Sergeant's stupid game. I'll find a way home without doing what he says.

I want to know how much I can actually trust you. So tell me, did you or did you not get a medal.

Good. Because I asked him afterwards and they can't be transferred anyway. He wants us to earn them by doing what he tells us to.

[The more you know.]

When I returned to my room, I found the medal as well as something else of mine.

[If he were feeling particularly vindictive or stubborn, he'd point out that this particular piece of information is rather convenient. But in the end, he doesn't give a shit if those medals are transferable or not, and the less obsessed people are with obtaining them the better. The Sergeant just can't be trusted to keep his word, end of story.

So maybe, what's really at the bottom of all this is that there's a part of him that just feels a little bad for Kino that she's in a desperate enough place to gamble that way. It doesn't make him want to forgive her for risking everyone's safety. He probably won't forgive her for that one any time soon, judging from that cold glare she's still getting.

But hearing that she does have that godforsaken medal does make him believe that Kino is inclined to keep her word on not taking stupid risks like that again. Is he still angry? Yep. Very much so. But does he want to keep fighting? Not so much. Keith got what he wanted here.

He turns away from Kino and looks back towards the others at the meeting. Back to what they were talking about previously, it seems.

[She only stares back, calm and unapologetic. It's only when he turns away that she does the same.]
