Week 5: April 29th - May 3rd

Fifth Week

Everything's getting worse. Rose Nylund and Frasier Crane murdered Jughead Jones during the event Jughead worked so hard to organize. Given some of the townspeople were in attendance, it didn't give a good impression -- if the visitors did this when trying to be good people and get along with Cartesio, then how will they behave once they get into destroying everything? The cruel method of Jughead's death also left everyone quite horrified, too.

That may be why it's no surprise the town's quiet unrest is slowly turning into real, tangible fury.

During the week, from time to time stones break some of the windows of the motel, looking outside shows a random passerby running away. Graffiti is left on the walls: 'SEE IF YOU LIKE THIS' 'MURDERERS' 'YOU'RE GOING TO DESTROY US ALL', and other similar messages. Some of the store owners hesitate when the visitors approach, but they don't refuse service because money is always nice.

The Sergeant's pervasive influence is starting to cover not only you, but also the entire town of Cartesio. After all, everything that's happening to you and the motel? It's the result of what you and the other visitors have done.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

I don't think... anything anyone could have ever gotten was worth the pain and damage that happened.

[silvertongueheir]

[...] If I could have gotten her back with less damage to the diner, that would have been acceptable as well. But she's not just a "thing" to me. I took care of her egg myself, and I was there when she hatched. [His beautiful grassy child.]

[clearities]

It's the same with me and my cards. They're not just cards... they're my friends.

[silvertongueheir]

[He nods in total understanding.] Though they need your staff to manifest, right?

[clearities]

[ she echoes his nod with one of her own ] Mmhm. But they're okay.

[silvertongueheir]

[A smile.] It's good to know that. You can still communicate with them in this form? Or sense their emotions?

[clearities]

[ she shakes her head, unfortunately ] I... can at least tell that they're alive.

[silvertongueheir]

[Another slow nod.] Do you know if they can hear you, in that form?

[clearities]

I don't know.

[silvertongueheir]

[A slow nod.] I hope you recover your staff, somehow. I can't imagine my own Pokemon being trapped in their Pokeballs with me unable to call them out...

[clearities]

Um, it's fine-- it's not like I use the cards too often unless I have to, and... I know that it's my staff, but I feel like if I had it back sooner, with the rest of my cards, I might have been able to stop the fire from spreading. [ SO UH. that's kind of one of the reasons why she feels a little guilty. ]

[silvertongueheir]

[Ah, that makes sense.] It's not your fault he hasn't returned it to you yet. The fault lies with the ones who actually set and accelerated the fire, not you.

[clearities]

Even if it's not my fault... I couldn't do anything to stop them, either. Not just that one time. But every single one. Week after week.

[silvertongueheir]

Last week wasn't your fault, either. The man was already prejudiced against us, and we had little evidence to offer.

[clearities]

Even if that might be true... that doesn't change what happened.

[silvertongueheir]

[A slight sigh.] Perhaps we should just refuse to speak to him if he shows up again, until we have concrete proof of the Sergeant's involvement.

[clearities]

I don't know if refusal to speak would help our case, though.

[silvertongueheir]

There's only so much material the press can get from a refusal to speak. Otherwise we just give him more ammunition to twist our words.

[clearities]

You think so...? I think he might say something mean because we don't speak.

[silvertongueheir]

...I suppose it's possible he might move to speculation about what sort of secrets we might be hiding. And tensions are high enough he may actually be believed. [And...they probably just burned bridges with their one advocate here.] I mostly speak from experience with paparazzi.

[clearities]

I don't have any secrets that I'm hiding.

[ Her words are firm.

Of course, she's also unaware that there's something about herself that even she doesn't know, but that's all. ]

[silvertongueheir]

[He nods.] Perhaps next time we should not all speak to him at once, either.

[clearities]

Maybe.

[silvertongueheir]

[Another nod, before he reaches out to touch her shoulder lightly and somewhat awkwardly, still.] You've always tried to help. People should listen to your suggestions more, I feel.

[clearities]

Thank you. [ She doesn't know that it's going to be impossible, but-- ] When I get my wand, I'll show you my magic, okay?
