You wake to the heat breaking in the morning. It's
actually morning, bright. Sunny. Probably all of you are pleased to have gotten through the night with sleep, or at least with no sudden gunshots and impromptu investigation.
Cherish that brief bliss. Enjoy your morning routine, as long as it's in the motel. Once you
leave the motel, you see, it's obvious something awful's happened again.
Someone has taken the Sergeant's bait.
Because, right outside the very door of the building you sleep in,
there's a broken body to greet you.

Your turf here in the junkyard has a pile of stuff, the fire already gone, but the strong smell of melted objects persists. It's a sizable pile, quite a few things are here.
The first one that may catch the eye is the long pole-like object here. Will you be able to grab this stuff or at least move it away from the rest?]

is it a mop]no subject
Looks like this was broken in half. Seems to be a polearm of some sort. Perhaps a spear or a lance?]

Next in your scavenging hunt in this pile...there's this melted bunch of weird, lumpy yet tantalizing bunch of gold. A sizable pile, too. Jackpot?]

but this gold? he almost salivates at the sight! where did this even come from? he crouches down to get a better look, and he'll lift it, if he can... unless it's a huge heavy lump, or still hot]

The rest of the pile is more gold, as well as what's presumably the metallic parts of the weapon all melted. Kind of golden-colored, but not like the gold. The pole itself isn't melted, but is all bumpy now. Nothing of use, in other words.
What may come useful isn't tangible, it's the constant smell of burned...something. Something was burned. Hard to know what it was, but it stinks. Hair, perhaps? Fur? Feathers? Nails? It's impossible to pinpoint]

if he follows his nose, is he going to find what was burned?]

His wandering around may lead him to find a matchbox, though. It's burnt, but not enough. The box and its contents still are recognizable]

the matchbox, he'll pick up, too. he glances around once more to make sure he hasn't missed anything, then he starts hauling back his stuff]
