Week 5: Trial

      

Last time it was at dawn. Now it's at sunset. The Sergeant gave everyone plenty of time to investigate and gather evidence, and now that everyone entered the courtroom, he slammed his gavel.

"I can sense a few of you are feeling rather hostile. Remember you're in a courtroom, and you're being watched by everyone in town"

People's opinions of the visitors are already very low, but there's no need to feed them further with a brawl in the courtroom -- or so the Sergeant thinks. There are more podiums draped in black now. Five more people died, seventeen people are alive. How many will be left once the trial is over?

"This time we have three victims in total. Millium Orion, Cian Reikado, and Azura were the unfortunate victims last night, and now you shall debate and decide who is responsible for this.

These are your suspects. Vote for as many as you think are responsible for these crimes"

[Okay, first of all, fuck you Sarge. How dare you (correctly) imply that Keith is ready for a throwdown, and what the everliving fuck is this suspect list?!

Keith glares at the Sergeant, then at each and every suspect on this list.]

Alright, fess up. Which of you assholes did this?

[Oh look, it's been less than a minute and Keith's already yelling. What a good start...]

Don't act like you're not on the list.

[There's none of the normal yelling. He's pretty calm right now, or cold...]

I didn't fucking do it, so you're not going to get anywhere by questioning me, Wayne.

[streetwolf]

[Shrug.]

Right right. You know arguing you didn't do it only makes it look like you did. So you might want to cooperate when someone starts askin'.

[Cause he's not interested.]

[marmoron]

[Raising an eyebrow, but he's also really not in the mood for this.]

And you're an idiot if you think I'm going to accept it when I'm being accused of murdering my friends. If you've got a question, ask, but I'm telling you it's a waste of time.

[streetwolf]

I don't really care about defending any of you right now. So you might want to get to that instead of yapping about how it ain't you.

[Cause he's in group vote-all right now.]

You're being real contradictory, you know that? Didn't you just say that defending myself just makes me look guiltier?

[Fucking christ.]

If you've got a question, ask it already. If you don't, then get out of my face.

[streetwolf]

Actually defend yourself properly instead of just swearing it wasn't you then.

[Saying it isn't you isn't exactly useful.]

Where were you and why are you on the damn list?

[Might as well ask what the others are asking.]

[He's getting a scowl, but as long as there's an actual quesiton he'll cooperate.]

I was sleeping with Cian on Thursday night. I woke up and she was gone in the morning. That's probably why I'm on the list.

[An even dirtier look, though this one isn't directed at Wayne.]

And because someone is trying real hard to make me take the fall.

You were in a relationship with her?

[I'd apologize but I'm not actually sorry]

[robitussin]

You're wasting our time.

[It'd be said with a lot more anger if she were talking to any of the other suspects. As it is, though, she continues on after that blunt statement.]

You said that you believed the offer he made all of this week. Did you consider it?

[marmoron]

[There's a bit of a hostile look, but likewise not quite as intense as if it'd been someone else asking.]

I considered it, sure. Then I realized it was stupid because the Sergeant can't be trusted anyway.

[robitussin]

So there's nobody you would have taken that risk for? Nobody that even came to mind?

[marmoron]

Of course people came to mind. But I've already told you, there are ways to bring people back from the dead in my world and if I was going to try and bring someone back with me, I'd do it on my own terms.

[robitussin]

Yeah, I get that you're saying that, and it's not like I don't believe you, but just...

[She sighs.]

Look, I'm asking this to everyone up there, okay? It's not like I'm singling you out. So just - can you tell me who they were?

[marmoron]

[A long pause, but he winds up just looking embarrassed before he sighs.]

My pop. I thought maybe with my mom back in the picture, it'd be....

[Trailing off, he just shakes his head.]

Stupid, like I said. Not worth what the Sergeant's asking for. Pop would 've hated it.

[robitussin]

[Her expression and voice soften slightly as she looks his way.]

It's not... I mean, I'm not going to say it would have been worth it or anything, but you're not stupid for thinking about it for a second.

[She doesn't want to get caught up on that in the middle of a trial, though, so she'll move on after that simple reassurance.]

[Well, Kino's tone is the same level as usual if nothing else.]

If you had gone for the motive, who would you have chosen to bring with you? It looked like almost everyone here had someone in mind.

[Except for your local heartless traveler apparently, but.]

[marmoron]

I didn't go for the motive.

[Tone is firm on that one; he's not letting you walk away with a warped perspective here.]

So it doesn't really matter who I would have considered, does it?

[quickpersuader]

Think of it as a hypothetical question. I'm asking everyone else here the same thing, and it sounds like everyone thought about someone else.

We still don't know how many people the Sergeant will take this time. If you fight questioning every step of the way, people might default to voting for you because they either don't believe you, or were convinced by everyone else's answers instead.

[marmoron]

[Frowning.]

I already told Natalie.

[quickpersuader]

[Nodding.]

That's fair, then.

[marmoron]

Look, Kino.

[And here he's just going to be blunt.]

All of us are claiming we were in our rooms, conveniently nowhere near either crime scene. All of us were at least intrigued by the motive' We're not going to figure out who murdered Azura, Cian and Millium by questioning people's intents.

Right now we're looking for at least one person who was strong enough to overpower Lammy. [Woops sorry, Cian he's leaving you out of this for what he thinks are self explanatory reason....] and might have had a reason to want either Azura or Millium dead. They both had blue hair. It's possible the culprit mistakenly killed one of them.

[quickpersuader]

...So you think that the culprit killed one first and then went to kill the other one they actually intended to target?

[marmoron]

I don't know for sure. We have to work out if this was one killer or more.

If one person was responsible for all of this, then what I just said seems likely, doesn't it? But if there were two culprits, then it's likely one of them went for Azura and the other attacked Millium and Cian.

But either way we're looking for someone who had the ability to overpower Lammy. [And in afterthought.] And can forge handwriting.

[Cuz he didn't write that goddamn note, etc.]
