Week 5: Trial

      

Last time it was at dawn. Now it's at sunset. The Sergeant gave everyone plenty of time to investigate and gather evidence, and now that everyone entered the courtroom, he slammed his gavel.

"I can sense a few of you are feeling rather hostile. Remember you're in a courtroom, and you're being watched by everyone in town"

People's opinions of the visitors are already very low, but there's no need to feed them further with a brawl in the courtroom -- or so the Sergeant thinks. There are more podiums draped in black now. Five more people died, seventeen people are alive. How many will be left once the trial is over?

"This time we have three victims in total. Millium Orion, Cian Reikado, and Azura were the unfortunate victims last night, and now you shall debate and decide who is responsible for this.

These are your suspects. Vote for as many as you think are responsible for these crimes"

[ someone seems kind of surprised to see his picture on the suspect list but he's... going to roll with it. bolin sighs and then just looks out at everyone. ]

Alright, sure.

Bolin-san... um, what were you doing last night?

[tuffguy]

I spent most of yesterday trying to see if any of the citizens would donate money to fix the diner.

[clearities]

Even in the evening?

[tuffguy]

No, towards the evening I went back to my room to clean up. Almost everyone I asked didn't really respond too... favorably. Some more so than others.

I think I still have milkshake in my ears

And what were you doing early on Friday morning?

[tuffguy]

Sleeping until I woke up and went outside.

And well--

[ that's p obvious what happened after that ]

I see. Thank you. [ she appreciates hearing this a lot, okay ]

[ he nods at Sakura ]

Do you know why you might be on the list?

[tuffguy]

[ After hearing the evidence ]

Maybe because of the rock? My best guess, at least.

[unfashionably]

Yeah, I'm not sure I get it either. No way you had anything to do with— [ He hesitates. ] —what happened on the roof. Or at least, it doesn't make sense to me if you did. [ It's called earthbending not cementbending!! ]

And I don't see how you'd be involved with what happened in the park either, beyond the rock. It almost seems like an arbitrary choice.

[tuffguy]

He's probably running low on choices here.

[unfashionably]

Maybe, but if Olympia's on there 'cause of how banged up Lammy is then I should be too. [ Not that he wants to be a suspect again. ] I guess it could be about the motive, but most people would be at least a little tempted even if they didn't want to be.

[ Besides him because Fairy Tail is (mostly) a happy place. ]

Maybe he's pissed you put out the fire.

--Maybe that too.

[ yeah still glaring at dabi but the trial is not the place for earth vs fire rematch ]

How did you feel about the offer the Sergeant gave us this week?

[tuffguy]

[ bolin casts a meaningful look at the empty podium that is mako's ]

I'd be lying if I said that I didn't consider it for just a second.

[robitussin]

But it was only for a second, even for him?

[tuffguy]

Only a second. Plus, I know my brother, and he'd kill me himself if I ever did anything like that for him.

[robitussin]

Yeah. That's easy to say.

[She shrugs, though. She doesn't want to be cruel, just thorough]

That's the only question I have for now. Thanks.

...Well, I think I can guess, but...

If you went for the motive, who would you have chosen to save?

[tuffguy]

My brother, Mako.

[ it's convenient that Mako's empty podium is almost directly across from Bolin's ]

[Yeah, that's no real surprise.]

Bringing someone back from the dead isn't normally possible, so unfortunately... some might think it's worth the price.

[tuffguy]

[ bolin is a man of little surprises ]

Yeah, I'd be lying if I said if the thought didn't cross my mind.

But Mako would kill me himself if I did anything like that for him.
