Week 5: Trial

      

Last time it was at dawn. Now it's at sunset. The Sergeant gave everyone plenty of time to investigate and gather evidence, and now that everyone entered the courtroom, he slammed his gavel.

"I can sense a few of you are feeling rather hostile. Remember you're in a courtroom, and you're being watched by everyone in town"

People's opinions of the visitors are already very low, but there's no need to feed them further with a brawl in the courtroom -- or so the Sergeant thinks. There are more podiums draped in black now. Five more people died, seventeen people are alive. How many will be left once the trial is over?

"This time we have three victims in total. Millium Orion, Cian Reikado, and Azura were the unfortunate victims last night, and now you shall debate and decide who is responsible for this.

These are your suspects. Vote for as many as you think are responsible for these crimes"

[Keith obliges with a bit of a deadpan expression. He'll refrain from commenting until everyone's results are in.]

[Well, she complies and writes it, but she's already seen what the handwriting in the note looks like the whole time she was hoarding it, so who knows if you can trust it.]

[Olympia obliges. Her "natural" "handwriting" looks like goddamn technical lettering.]

If I were to forge it, I would have made it sound more like Keith in the first place.

[After examination, you conclude... Keith's sample is the one that matches the best. The others don't come not even close]

[Osomatsu examines the notes carefully. he's no expert. not even close. so he doesn't even know what to look for. but he at least can compare them to the original]

...Sorry, Keith. It really does look like your handwriting. [but the tone of the note doesn't match him at all. this was probably a bust. he can only hope others will find something more substantial]

Sounds like it really was forged. No one's going to admit if they did it, though it does seem like Franciscus might be able to make forgeries.

Guess he could've written the note in a hurry, and forgotten about how Keith speaks.

Maybe? It's obvious the note was gonna be called out as a forgery though, maybe it was made this way precisely so someone could claim it wasn't good enough to be from them.

Anyone would say the same. Without offering anything else in that statement, it’s rather weak.

I just think you're the only one who admitted you can forge, but there's nothing that says a couple of the others can't do it too. Olympia is a robot, she might be able to reproduce handwriting. [ Depends, really. ] Niwa's profile mentions "espionage," forgery might be a useful skill for her.

Honestly, we don't really know that much about this yet.

I don't expect you to believe a claim from me either way on my forgery skills, but... I will say that if we assume the note really was used for the purpose of luring Millium-san there, then I would have had no idea to use Keith for that. I wasn't aware they were friends or anything - I rarely spoke to either of them.

We also can't ignore the fact that the Sarge was up there, doing god knows what. I'm not sure he would tamper with things, but... he had the opportunity. He might be trying to get as many people killed here as he can.

Someone else on this suspect list is good at forgery. People here know what my handwriting looks like.

...Have you made any enemies here? I mean. Aside from the rest of the town?

[Oh he can think of at least one or two people who probably dislike him, but on that suspect list?]

Most of the people I spoke to regularly are dead.

My guess is that whoever did it thought I was an easy target for framing, rather than having a grudge against me. Obviously they don't know me well enough to know how I talk so... Franciscus, Ryouka or Bollin.

I think most people don't have a clear idea of who did it yet, but I don't see someone who ran into a fire being ruthless enough to call a kid to a roof to beat them up.

If someone had such a skill, would it be reflected in the information about them in the guestbook?

You would think it would have to be, yes?

The fact that I'm supposed to be able to call Black to me isn't on that guestbook either.
